Position Description

General – This position will inspect / troubleshoot and perform repairs to the facility’s equipment and structure.

 Policy Making Responsibility – The Maintenance Technician will have no policy making responsibility.

Decision Making Responsibility - Routine decisions related to maintaining equipment health; part replacement based on PM checklists / troubleshooting results and adjustments, to maintain production with the best quality.

Supervisory Responsibility – This position has no supervisory responsibility

Safety – Employees are responsible for individual compliance with all safety rules, regulations and policy procedures.  Employee responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

  • Complying with all safety rules and regulations
  • Reporting any unsafe practices and/or conditions to their supervisor
  • Maintaining floor safety discipline by interceding with fellow employees, vendors and contractors who may engage in rule violations and/or unsafe, unhealthy activities
  • Communicating to management those employees who persist in violations of safety rules and/or procedures
  • Wearing required personal protective equipment properly and reporting any defective PPE
  • Reporting all near misses, accidents, injuries or illnesses, including Muscular Skeletal symptoms or disorders

Essential Responsibilities

  • Conducting routine inspections of equipment and premises
  • Using the CMMS system to:
    • Generate and close preventive maintenance work orders
    • Completion of corrective work orders as assigned
  • Root cause troubleshooting of mechanical and electrical issues
  • Available for occasional call in work as required
  • Contributing member of lean and process teams
  • Suggesting improvements to the maintenance process
  • Working Bi-Annual shutdowns as scheduled
  • Other duties as assigned

Essential Physical Demands and Working Conditions

 

In this position, the employee will be subjected to physical demands requiring:

  • Ability to lift, grip, push/pull and/or move up to 50 pounds
  • Ability to perform standard manufacturing body movements:
    • frequent standing and walking around
    • rarely goes up and down steps
    • frequent bending, squatting, stooping, pulling, pushing
    • frequent sitting, reaching, two-finger grasping
  • Ability to tolerate a very noisy manufacturing work area
  • Occasional exposure to elements such as noise, dust, heat, cold or chemicals

 

Hours of work – The normal work hours for this position are 8-hour shifts, 5 days per week.  Overtime and call-in work may be required.

Standards for performing essential functions

Education:

Required:     GED or High School Diploma, Technical School and / or 5 years experience as an industrial maintenance technician.

Evaluation criteria

The Preventive Maintenance Technician’s performance will be accessed periodically as deemed necessary by management, but no less than annually. Evaluation criteria will include but not necessarily limited to:

 

  • The fulfillment of the essential functions described above
