As the Medication Line Specialist (Remote in AZ), you play an instrumental role in our patients’ treatment as you help our providers with managing patient medications. You are responsible for thorough, accurate reporting and documentation of refill requests, in addition to any point of service patient care issues that can be resolved via the patient portal or our med line.
Working Hours: 8:00am – 5:00pm PT
Responsibilities
- Patient Communication Assistance: Serve as a primary point of contact for patients regarding medication inquires, including triaging messages from incoming calls, patient portal messages, clinicians and the front office, to ensure questions and concerns are addressed promptly and compassionately.
- Medication Coordination: Assist clinicians in coordinating medication therapies, including medication reconciliation, and support patient adherence to prescribed regimens.
- Appointment Coordination: Ensure that patients have appropriate follow-up appointments scheduled by coordinating with clinicians and front office staff to maintain continuity of care and treatment adherence.
- Prior Authorization Facilitation: Facilitate the prior authorization process by gathering required documentation, completing applicable forms, and communicating with insurance companies and pharmacies to minimize delays in patient care.
- Inbox Triage: Monitor and triage clinician inboxes during periods of absence by prioritizing messages, addressing routine matters, and escalating time-sensitive issues to appropriate clinicians or departments.
- Patient Advocacy: Advocate for patients by understanding their unique situations, and barriers to accessing medications. Work collaboratively with clinicians, pharmacies, and insurance companies to identify solutions.
- Medication Education: Educate patients on medication-related topics, including refill policies, side effect awareness, and the importance of adherence to their prescribed treatment plans.
- Clinical Documentation: Utilize SBAR (Situation, Background, Assessment, Recommendation) to document all relevant patient interactions, medication communications, and authorization statuses in a timely and accurate manner.
- Interdisciplinary Collaboration: Collaborate with clinicians, pharmacists, and third-party payers to support integrated care delivery and medication access.
- Patient De-escalation & Crisis Support: Utilize de-escalation techniques to support patients during emotionally escalated situations and assist clinicians and front office staff in maintaining a calm and supportive environment. Provide assistance with crisis response protocols when patients are in acute distress.
- Participates in special projects and performs other related duties as assigned.
Qualifications
- 1+ year of experience as a Certified Medical Assistant (CMA), EMT-B, or Pharmaceutical Technician; behavioral health experience preferred.
- 1+ year of experience managing prescription refill requests.
- Excellent customer service and communication skills, both written and oral.
- Strong working knowledge of pharmacology, medication therapies, and the insurance authorization process.
- Familiarity with SBAR (Situation, Background, Assessment, Recommendation) documentation and communication.
- Proficient in using electronic health records (EHR) and healthcare-related software; experience with prior authorization systems preferred.
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills with the ability to engage with patients, clinicians, and third-party partners in a professional and empathetic manner.
- Skilled in employing de-escalation techniques to effectively manage difficult patient interactions and maintain a supportive environment.
- Excellent organizational and time management skills with the ability to prioritize multiple tasks effectively.
