Describe the career growth path you've taken at Zappos. I started at Zappos in 2014 right after graduating from college. Initially I worked on back office systems, migrating our gift card and credit card rewards programs to a new platform, which was a very interesting and challenging project. Then I had the opportunity to work on the website for the My Account team and eventually became the development lead for the team. Throughout my time at Zappos I’ve been given so many opportunities to progress in my career, which I am very grateful for.
What makes Zappos a great place to work? Everything! I remember when I was interviewing and asked this question to Zappos engineers, they all said "the people." At that time I wondered if that meant their work wasn't super interesting or challenging. But now that I'm here, I realize that the work is definitely interesting and challenging. Now, you can find engaging work in a lot of companies, so what really sets Zappos apart is that we also have the people and a culture that makes you love coming to work every day. One of the things I noticed in my first week was how Zappos e-mail exchanges are as friendly and goofy as they can be. Little things like that add up to build awesome relationships and make everyone happier. People are always willing to help, are super humble, and are passionate about their work.
