Finance, Accounting & Supply Chain
Not Just Numbers & Shipping
We record finances, prepare analysis for decision making and ensure the money-train stays on track. We also make sure Zappos Family employees get their paychecks (Woohoo!) and work with our Amazon friends to ensure an efficient supply chain program. We're looking for smart, forward-thinking problem-solvers to join our world-class and fairly wacky team.
Meet Our Zapponians
Describe the career growth path you've taken at Zappos. My background has always been in banking and I wanted to venture into a different part of the finance world. I was lucky enough to become a part of the Zappos family. I started in Accounts payable and was able to work with the team that handled everything to keep the business running. It was such a great way get my feet wet and discover what I was passionate about. I soon learned that I really enjoyed a lot of the day to day operations of Payroll. I was able to join the Payroll team and as they say the rest is history. I can’t wait to learn and grow with this amazing company.
Describe the relationships you've built with your co-workers. I have been able to make some amazing and long lasting connections in the year and a half I have been at Zappos. New hire training was such an amazing way to connect with so many people in different departments. Our culture has allowed me to build friendships and relationships with people I would have never had the opportunity to meet. We aren’t just co-workers, we are family.
What advice would you give to someone applying to a job in your department? Be yourself! We want to get to know you. This is your moment to shine so make it count. We work very hard in our department with many deadlines but we play just as hard. We may seem like a quiet bunch but don't let the silence of the room fool you.
What are some of the challenges you enjoy most? Everyday there are new challenges in Travel. It could be cancelled flights and being stranded at the airport. Last minute travel to book and can’t find a hotel. Whatever it may be it’s always satisfying to help. Our travelers always appreciate the help they receive and they let us know!
What is a typical day like for you at Zappos? A typical day for me at Zappos is basically a focus on whatever project I’m working on. This could be a question someone has where I need to organize, find, rate the data available to me. It could also be designing reports that give information to others who need it on a day to day basis. I spend most of my work time at my desk, but because I find walking and different scenery helps me think, I often work in the café or on the rooftop if the weather is nice. Sometimes I work from somewhere downtown if I need the walk or the change of scenery.
What is your favorite part about your job? My job is very project based, so I love that. Things can and will be different for me from week to week. I’m still new so, Zappos and I are still courting one another as I learn the ins and outs of the supply chain side of business. I see lots of opportunity so I love that about the job. I love that Zappos doesn’t hold you on a ball and chain and that I have freedom to work in areas that aren’t necessarily my desk. And I love that Zappos cares about the employee and the work they do, not necessarily if they’re following some set rules made up by people that don’t understand your job. If “self-starter”, “independent” and “focused on deliverables” are more than just buzzwords on a cover letter to you, then Zappos is a great place to advance yourself and your career.
How do you describe your work to your friends and family? I took some time off after my last company because I was burnt out and convinced my wife to support my dream of playing poker professionally. Before I knew it our 6 month agreement turned into 4 years and I honestly never thought I would go back to a “traditional” job. Zappos is the only company that could have convinced me to quit my dream in favor of waking up in the morning for “work.” I get up every day because I was lucky enough to find a company that pays me to learn, play and solve problems with my friends.
How would you describe what it's like to work at Zappos in just 1 word? Empowered!
What makes Zappos a great place to work? Zappos’ culture and people are simply amazing! The culture at Zappos is nothing I’ve ever experienced. It’s great to come into work and see upbeat, friendly, and caring individuals. Employees are as dedicated to giving back to the community as the company, AND that overall is just an AWESOME feeling.
Other than Zappos, what's one mobile app you can't live without? My calendar app is one of a few apps that I can NOT live without. I am a planner and the calendar is a great way to keep myself organized – business and personal related.
What do you think it takes to be successful at Zappos? Open mindedness and being able to think outside the box.
What is your favorite part about your job? Having co-workers that are more than just that. It's like I've been given a whole new family and support system for work, and life in general.
Why did you choose Zappos? Disneyland. The first time I heard about Zappos is when a developer told me that they were doing a department field trip to Disneyland. Any company that spends the time and money to take care of their employees is a good reason for me to give my all to that company.
