About Your Role:

The WRI India Ross Centre for Sustainable Cities is seeking to fill a Intern’s position to advance our Planning, Monitoring, Evaluation and Learning work for Nature Based Solutions, that focusses on effective climate risk resilience in India.   
WRI globally, has deep experience in the urban development sector and is widely recognized as a leader in promoting sustainable cities. Currently, WRI India is supporting various government and private agencies to promote nature-based solutions as part of their urban resilience and disaster mitigation plans and strategies.   
The selected candidates will contribute to research, coordination, capacity building, communications and outreach related to PMEL for NbS focusing on Climate resilience. The selected candidates will work with the Urban Development team under Sustainable Cities and Transport Program in undertaking desk and field research, engaging with key departments in understanding climate concerns, informing climate-relevant strategies and other related work. The individual will work closely with staff from WRI India and consortium partners.  

How your day will unfold:

The selected candidate will support the Sustainable Cities program at WRI India with the following:  
Carry out on-ground and desk research, and collect case studies that can inform PMEL framework for Nature Based Solutions.   
  • Provide assistance and direct PMEL support to project team, including strategy and program design of theories of change, monitoring and project implementation.  
  • Serve as support to team to design research/ evaluations ensuring design and evidence gathering. 
  • Conduct proposal reviews to help integrate MEL from the outset and provide assistance on M&E reporting and indicators to subgrantees and partners. 
  • Contribute to the publication of thematic studies, roadmaps, policy briefs, and blogs on topics related to climate resilience, urban greening, nature-based solutions, sustainable development, etc. 
  • Occasionally, assist in coordinating events for engagement with internal and external stakeholders through roundtables, seminars/ webinars, workshops, policy interactions, training, and other communication and outreach activities. 
  • Participate in relevant external and/or internal meetings and stakeholders’ consultations to invite inputs and integrate the same. 
  • Assist in visual communication work when needed. 
  • Provide support using relevant software towards the compilation of communication materials. 
  • Locate and coordinate with relevant organizations to obtain required data and content. 
  • Learn about existing planning policies at the city/state and national level for the same. 
  • Contribute towards developing presentations for stakeholder meetings. 
  • Assist in designing and creating innovative problem-solving approaches to effectively address key questions and challenges posed by our research goals and program objectives. 
 
 
Qualifications and Requirements we seek:
  • Post-graduate in the related field of urban planning, urban resilience, urban design, environmental planning, sustainable development etc. 
  • Fresher to 2 years of sectoral experience in the field of urban development. 
  • Video recording and video editing skills, or the willingness to learn the same. 
  • Knowledge of ecological practices, nature-based solutions, or a keen interest in developing the same. 
  • Demonstrated experience in leading and/or contributing to interdisciplinary research projects on nature-based solutions, urban resilience, vulnerability assessments, community-based adaptation and other related work. 
  • Strong communication skills, ability to liaise with government and other stakeholders - to collect data, communicate findings, and seek feedback iteratively. 
  • Proficiency in quantitative and/or qualitative data collection and analysis 
  • Demonstrated ability to work both independently as well as part of a team. 
  • Ability to present complex information in a clear and concise manner. 
  • Ability to think creatively, work calmly and enthusiastically under pressure. 
Stipend: 25,000 per month  
Location: Mumbai 
Duration: 3 Months
