About your role: 
WRI India is seeking a senior research associate with 5-7 years of experience to provide research and writing support for a flagship report on urban transformations in, with, and by Indian cities with a particular focus on place-based transformations leading to the generation of public spaces and the impact on people, nature and climate. This project is led by Program Director for WRI India Ross Center for Sustainable Cities.
How your day will unfold:
  • Assist the Program Director with research on urban public spaces, and work with team members and collaborators within and outside WRI on all aspects of research and knowledge production.
  • Organize, review, and summarize relevant literature on urban urban transformations and the different pathways to generating public spaces and the outcomes and impacts of different interventions.
  • Proactively engage with research teams to understand WRI India’s portfolio of work on public spaces in different cities and collect project related information from different teams including conducting indepth interviews with key team members and their city partners
  • In consultation with the project lead develop a list of external stakeholders who have been instrumental in shaping public spaces in India and conduct key informant interviews, collect secondary and primary data on possible good practice case studies as well as cases that showed promise but did not have the intended impact
  • Play a leading role in collecting data from various secondary and primary sources as identified by the team
  • Support efforts to analyze data pertaining to selected case studies to understand the demand and supply side of public spaces
  • Write analytic notes related to key emerging themes
  • Support the development of case studies
  • Produce project-related presentations, and support the development of knowledge products articles to disseminate research, under the guidance of the Program Director
  • Any other tasks as assigned by the Cities Research Director to further Cities Research goals related to urban transformations
Qualifications and Requirements we seek:
  • An advanced degree in relevant social or natural science disciplines, such as development, public policy, or urban planning, and 4-7 years of relevant experience.
  • Experience of working with the Government, civil society, research institutions or the private sector on urban planning projects and place-based urban transformation is desirable but not mandatory.
  • A clear understanding of the research process, methods, and standards, and experience working on interdisciplinary and applied research using mixed methods.
  • Organized, detail-oriented, and systematic, with an ability to manage multiple priorities and work with tight deadlines.
  • Excellent writing, reasoning, and oral communication skills.
  • An ability to clearly convey information on research processes and standards, and to engage regularly and constructively with colleagues and teams from different WRI programs and core functions, including Communications.
  • Strong computer skills. Experience with referencing, research management, statistical and geo-spatial software is a plus
  • Good interpersonal skills and comfort working with staff at different levels of experience in a diverse and global organization. 
  • Self-motivated, proactive, and learning-oriented.
  • Demonstrated interest and knowledge of environmental and development issues in India and globally, and a commitment to sustainable and equitable development. 
Salary & Benefits: INR 11,00,000 to INR 13,00,000 CTC Per Annum

Salary shall be commensurate with experience and skills. WRI offers a generous and comprehensive benefits package.

Location: Delhi/Bangalore/Mumbai, India
Duration: 1 year as term hire (extendable based on performance and project requirements)
