We are looking for a highly motived Mid Level Sys Admin who owns both Linux and Windows, you will be responsible for maintaining up to date patching of all the office's Linux and Windows servers; interfacing with end users to administer accounts (new set ups and trouble shoot existing); working with other members of the infrastructure team to ensure minimized down time; implementing baseline changes and responding to change request; performing technical evaluations, analysis, and troubleshooting for all supported servers; building servers by providing technical configuration, setup, installation services, hardware and coordination of application projects; and operating and maintaining servers.


Work Location: Ft. Meade, MD

Core Responsibilities:

  • Installation, configuration, and networking of UNIX and/or NT based platforms.
  • Creating, modifying and deleting user accounts, performing system back-ups, and maintaining system configuration files.
  • Understand operating systems and be familiar with either UNIX or NT commands or utilities at the user level.
  • Installation and configuration of hardware, operating systems, and commercial software packages.
  • Develop and implement enterprise backup/recovery strategies, server configuration and consolidation, and verification of the health and status of the entire IT infrastructure.
  • Provide support for enterprise services such as DNS, NFS, email services, security protection mechanisms, and the interoperability of UNIX and NT based systems.
Required Skills:
  • Must possess an active TS/SCI Fullscope Poly
  • Ability to use verbal and written communication skills to present information to a diverse population (technical and non-technical).
  • Ability to work well independently and as a member of a team
  • Experience working/collaborating with software engineering teams
  • Scripting experience – Python, Java, Shell, etc.
  • Hands-on experience with AWS– EC2, S3, VPC, Auto-Scaling, Cloud Watch, etc.
  • Strong experience supporting Linux and Java projects
  • Experience with source control, CI and build tools such as Git, Jenkins, etc.
  • Experience with monitoring tools such as AppDynamics, etc.
  • Ability to handle multiple projects simultaneously, meet deadlines, and effectively manage priorities and communicate progress
  • Experience working in an Agile environment, preferably as a member of a Scrum team
Additional Skills Preferred:
  • Willingness to learn Windows Systems Administration on a cross-function Agile Team.
  • Ability to provide innovative solutions for routine issues and tasks.
  • Working knowledge of Agile and Scrum methodologies.
  • Experience automating OS install processes (using kickstart configuration files, preseeding configuration files or similar)
  • Scripting experience using Perl, Python or similar advanced scripting languages
  • Willingness to learn and implement Scrum framework, Lean principles, Agile engineering and DevOps.
Education/Experience: SYSTEM ADMINISTRATOR III shall have a Bachelor’s Degree in Computer Science or related field, and have eight (8) years of demonstrable experience in system administration and support of a large client-server based IT enterprise. Or the individual shall have five (5) years of full time computer science work that can be substituted for the Bachelor’s Degree, and have eight (8) years of demonstrable experience in the system administration and support of a large client-server based IT enterprise. An industry recognized professional certification may substitute as one year experience.
  • Experience with system monitoring tools (Nagios and Thruk)
  • Experience with Linux and troubleshooting
  • Operations Experience with a 'high ops tempo'
