Job Summary: 
Assist with the implementation of therapeutic holistic activities for individual participants and for groups within a team care model, consistent with VON mission statement, program operational goals and individual participant goals.
Responsibilities:
  • Assist with implementation of programme in conjunction with team members
  • Ensure that present and future volunteers are incorporated in the planning of activities with the clients, based on client and program needs/goals
  • Works in collaboration with the Site ADP Coordinator and Coordinator of Volunteers to ensure that volunteers are integral to program delivery
  • Explore diverse resources in the community that will assist with program planning
  • Ensure that the program/activities are well documented for other staff members to implement
  • Contribute to the planning of monthly calendars of special events/programming and submit when requested
  • Contribute to the creation and maintenance of an atmosphere of warmth, caring, personal interest, resulting in a level of client participation that is appropriate and positive, as reflected by participant and family caregiver satisfaction
  • Other duties as assigned
Qualifications:

This position is a Canada Summer Jobs position open to students who meet the eligibility requirements of the program. To be eligible to participate in the CSJ initiative, individuals must:

  • Be between 15 and 30 years of age at the start of the employment
  • Have been registered as full-time students in the previous academic year and intend to return to school on a full-time basis in the next academic year
  • Be a Canadian citizen, permanent resident, or person to whom refugee protection has been conferred under the Immigration and Refugee Protection Act
  • Be legally entitled to work in Canada in accordance with relevant provincial/territorial legislation and regulations
Other Qualifications:
  • In the process of obtaining education in Gerontology, Therapeutic Recreation, Social Services or equivalent education
  • Demonstrated knowledge and experience in developing, implementing, and evaluating a therapeutic, holistic program plan, meeting the identified needs of each client is an asset
  • Certification in First Aid and CPR level C is an asset
  • Experience with computer programs (word processing, electronic communication) is an asset
  • Good communication and active listening skills
  • Ability to take direction, as well as to work both independently and as part of a multidisciplinary team
  • Capacity to remain calm in unexpected situations
  • A current and original copy of a satisfactory Criminal Records Check is required upon the start of your employment
  • A Vulnerable Sector Search and/or Child Abuse Registry Check may be required
  • Ability to speak French is an asset in French Designated areas
