DTC & E-Commerce Specialist

Job Summary

We’re looking for a DTC & E-commerce Specialist who will oversee the merchandise planning for the Shonen Jump merch store and support the development of DTC/Online accounts for VIZ Consumer Products.

The E-commerce Specialist’s goal will be to drive engagement with our customer base and optimize sales through the Shonen Jump Store site, and create compelling merch plans in partnership with our licensees to deliver long-term growth through our e-commerce platforms for VIZ Consumer Products.

The daily duties for this position will include being a key driver of the Shonen Jump store including planning merchandise assortments, heavy product development, building and adhering to budgets, monitoring sales performance and inventory levels, troubleshooting any issues with the site, fielding consumer feedback, liaising with vendors and cross-functional teams and constantly looking for ways to improve the Shonen Jump site, it’s productivity and products. 

This role will also be involved in assisting other e-commerce initiatives under the CPG umbrella at VIZ and supporting VIZ Consumer Products licensees in maximizing online business (such as Amazon).

This role will interface with internal and external stakeholders including Customer Acquisition and Retention, Marketing, Product Development, Engineering, Creative, Legal, Finance, Customer Service teams, and external agencies involved in running our DTC site, and include other responsibilities as assigned. 

If you are a MANGA and ANIME superfan who knows Shonen Jump titles like the back of your hand,  and have experience in Consumer Products-Development and Merchandising (particularly in fashion, streetwear, and lifestyle products), E-commerce/website management and are an expert task-master, possess strong communication skills, are good with numbers and a great team player we are looking for you.

What You'll Do

  • Help guide design direction while working with internal and external stakeholders on approvals from our rights holders in Japan
  • Multi-task, prioritize, and successfully meet several deadlines at once while maintaining attention to detail.
  • Manage our online inventory and product assortments and SKU listings 
  • Possess strong knowledge of the eCommerce space including competitive strategies, marketing strategies, product development, consumer research, usability best practices, and industry trends
  • Plan and oversee Shonen Jump Store photoshoots
  • Use Spreadsheets or Excel (pivot tables, vlookups, etc) in addition to web analytics to stay organized and monitor changes in product sales, and identify opportunities for improvement
  • Monitor changes in website traffic or increases in sales
  • Cultivate standards, systems, and best practices for content creation, distribution, maintenance, and new product listings.
  • Possess a comprehensive understanding of account-specific SEO best practices, pricing policies, media assets, inventory, and/or pre-orders
  • Assist with forming our overall DTC digital marketing strategy.
  • Optimize paid advertising campaigns using SEO and other tools
  • Develop campaigns to increase digital sales
  • Help manage our online marketing presence, including on social media platforms

The Ideal Candidate Has:

  • Minimum of 3+ years experience in a fast-paced e-commerce merch business, managing and maintaining e-Commerce websites/portals 
  • 3-5 years of relevant e-commerce and digital experience
  • Wide Knowledge of the anime/manga industry
  • Bachelor's Degree from an accredited college or university with a record that demonstrates suitable preparation for this position
  • Project Management Experience
  • Experience in Product Development/Life Cycle of Consumer Products (with a focus on Fashion/Streetwear categories)
  • Entrepreneurial Spirit - this fast-paced environment requires a dedicated self-starter
  • Knowledgeable of the e-Commerce space that includes marketing strategies, product development, competitive strategies, consumer research, industry trends, and usability best practices
  • Experience working with online retailers (especially Amazon)
  • Experience with planning/budgeting inventory.
  • Familiarity with web design, and a keen eye for detail
  • Excellent communication and collaboration skills
  • Analytical and multitasking skills with attention to detail and strong follow up skills

Additional Preferred Experience:

  • Experience with Shopify Platform
  • Entertainment licensing in Consumer Products experience

Work Environment & Schedule

The DTC & E-Commerce position is open to candidates local to the San Francisco Bay Area. Travel is expected for this position. 

Almost 90% of the time spent on this job involves the use of a computer. You’ll primarily work in an office environment and must be able to use standard office software, equipment, and communication tools. 

This is a Regular Full-Time position with flexibility in working hours outside of our core hours of 10:00 am - 4:00 pm. The DTC & E-Commerce Specialist may need to work late or on weekends or be on call for occasional urgent issues.
