CNC - Rotational Engineer - Manufacturing

Rotational Engineers are assigned one-year training rotations in different areas of the company including foundry engineering, manufacturing engineering, supply chain, manufacturing operations, or facilities engineering.  Upon completion of the rotational program, you will be permanently assigned to a position that best matches your career interests and strengths.  Participants of the Rotational Engineering program benefit greatly from gaining wide exposure to different company operations during the first 3-5 years of their career, which sets the stage for a wide variety of potential career paths. 

Responsibilities: 

  • Understands and abides by all Company safety rules, regulations, and policies.  Ensures that safe and sanitary working conditions are maintained in the facility in accordance with Company standards, as well as, state & federal laws and regulations. Knows and understands OSHA rights.  Conducts safety training topics as required or needed.  Attends all assigned safety meetings, toolbox talks, and safety training sessions.  As required, promptly investigates accidents and near misses, completes appropriate reports and takes action to eliminate root causes.
  • Develops solutions to a variety of complex and sometimes unusual problems that require independent judgment and ingenuity to modify procedure standards related to plant layout, design and construction.  Work is accomplished under general direction and completed work is reviewed for results. 
  • Analyzes engineering proposals, process requirements, and related technical data pertaining to industrial machinery and equipment design.  Determines feasibility of designing new plant equipment or modifying existing facilities considering cost, space available, time constraints, accompany planning, and other technical and economic factors.
  • Acts as primary contact for facilities project activities and leads project reviews of cost, schedule and technical performance.  Establishes milestones and monitors adherence to master plans, budgets, and schedules.  Identifies problems and develops solutions, such as allocation of resources or changing project scope.  May coordinate the work of employees assigned to the project.
  • Examines and approves engineering and/or architectural drawings, design computations, etc. to ensure compliance with sound engineering practices and established standards, codes and regulations.
  • Conducts preliminary surveys and prepares sketches and/or work drawings for the construction and maintenance of new or remodeled structures and facilities to include changes to existing layout. 
  • Estimates cost of projects, writes contracts and specification for labor, materials and equipment and secures bids from contractors.
  • Conducts periodic inspections of work in progress and advises supervisors and contractors on interpretation of plans and specification.
  • Inspects materials, workmanship and architectural, mechanical and electrical installations for conformance to plans and specification.
  • Reviews and approves shop drawings and cost breakdowns submitted by suppliers and contractors of projects.
  • Discusses plans, specifications, and work schedules with assigned plant personnel or contractors and resolves problems associated with projects.
  • Maintains records of progress, quantities, changes, delays and other pertinent factors affecting projects.
  • Controls cost and identifies opportunities to reduce cost relating to materials, installation, energy consumption, etc.
  • Conducts health and safety surveys of structures and maintains associated equipment.  Maintains records and prepares reports and correspondence related to the work.
  • Perform other duties as required.  These duties may include assignment in job classification other than the primary assignment.

 Qualifications (education, experience, personal attributes): 

  • Competent in the use of standard software applications such as Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Project, etc.)
  • Ability to maintain records, and prepare reports and correspondence related to the work
  • Ability to use computers and available software to maintain records and prepares technical reports
  • Able to communicate effectively using electronic media and in written and verbal forms.  Make telephone and direct personal contact with internal and external personnel and make formal presentations to small or large groups.
  • Ability to maintain favorable internal and external relationships.
  • Ability to work independently, self-motivated, with minimal supervision.  Acute attention to detail.

  • Motivated to stay abreast of the latest and/or new technologies in the Facilities and Manufacturing fields
  • Willingness to accept assignments of all types which may include frequent travel and relocation
  • Ability to work alternate schedules to support project requirements, i.e., weekends, different shifts, etc.
  • BS Degree in Engineering or Engineering Technology or other equivalent engineering degree
  • Familiar with all types of machinery, mechanical equipment, construction material, types of construction methods, and construction equipment
