Job Summary:
The Tax Accountant is a vital member of our Finance Team, responsible for overseeing and executing our Corporate Tax Compliance (both direct and indirect). This role requires close collaboration with key stakeholders within the organization and the broader Global Tax Team.
Key Responsibilities:
Corporate Tax Compliance:
- Manage federal and provincial tax returns and filings (income, sales tax, WHT).
- Handle tax defense and controversy matters (notices, assessments, reverse audits).
Accounting and Financial Reporting:
- Reconcile tax accounts and prepare tax provisions (monthly and annual).
- Assist in financial statement reporting and footnote preparation.
Tax Planning, Research, Analysis, and Coordination:
- Conduct tax research, planning, financial analysis, and modeling.
- Monitor legislative and accounting developments and advise colleagues.
- Prepare written memos, analyses, or presentations as needed.
- Manage and execute tasks against tax compliance and accounting calendars.
- Draft, maintain, and monitor tax policies and procedures.
- Identify potential improvements to current departmental processes.
- Serve as the regional tax liaison with the head office and other affiliates.
- Monitor and collaborate on transfer pricing and trade compliance, planning, and defense.
Education and Experience:
- Post-secondary education in Accounting, Finance, or Business Administration.
- 2+ years of tax accounting experience.
- Experience in overall finance and tax in an international environment is preferred.
Knowledge, Skills, and Proficiency Requirements:
- Strong problem-solving skills and the ability to manage and prioritize multiple projects and deadlines.
- Excellent communication skills, with the ability to explain and discuss tax accounting concepts.
- Initiative and curiosity to question and improve processes and drive change.
- Proficient in Microsoft Excel (pivot tables, VLOOKUP, etc.).
- Experience preparing corporate income tax provision calculations.
- Experience with AS-400 (BPCS)/M3 and QlikView/QlikSense is an asset.
- Experience with Sage Fixed Assets is an asset.
- Experience with Surveyor/SQL is an asset.
- Familiarity with tax research or other technology software (e.g., Alteryx) is an asset.
Salary: $60k+ (based on experience)
