Salary: the salary range for this role is $81,840-$94,160 and placement is based on prior professional and leadership experience.

About the Role:
For the 2025-2026 school year, Valor Collegiate Academies is seeking a dynamic Director of Fine Arts and Enrichment who is excited to share our mission of empowering scholars to live inspired and purposeful lives.
Valor’s Director of Fine Arts and Enrichment is responsible for overseeing and coaching Fine Arts and Enrichment teachers in grades 5-12, focusing on curriculum development, professional learning, development of a program vision, and instructional support. This role includes managing the Fine Arts and Enrichment budget, leading summer training and ongoing professional development, developing resources that guide instruction, and ensuring alignment with network goals. Additionally, the leader will serve as the executive director for middle and high school musical productions, guiding the artistic vision, managing budgets, and supporting student participation. The position also involves managing the state portfolio system, liaising with the Department of Education, and ensuring that course curricula meet portfolio requirements. The role requires strong leadership, coaching skills, and building a cohesive, creative arts program across multiple schools.
Key Responsibilities:
Leader and Teacher Development
- Develop leaders and teachers to effectively implement our instructional approach
- Lead Fine Arts and Enrichment Instructional Leader development
- Develop and deliver high quality professional development and instructional support tools to support middle and high school teachers to support their understanding of our instructional approach
- Facilitate teaching team weekly meetings, coordinate curricular and assessment shifts for the team, support intellectual preparation of their subject areas, and lead high-quality, actionable data analysis (1-3 teams)
- Coach a portfolio of Fine Arts and Enrichment teachers across grade levels (3-5 teachers)
- Plan and execute summer training and onboarding for Arts and Enrichment teachers. Backwards plan session objectives, key points, and associated activities and materials in alignment with network guidance to prepare teachers for being “day one” ready for students
- Support the school’s partnership with external vendors to deliver Valor’s 5-12 Sexual Education units. Ensure that communication with families happens in a timely manner, and partner with school leaders to develop an opt-out strategy.
- Set and lead a cohesive vision for curriculum, instruction, and assessment
- Partner with the Managing Director of Schools to update the Fine Arts and Enrichment curricular, assessment and instructional approach
- Source, curate, and revise top quality student and staff facing curricular and assessment materials for grades 5-12
- Work collaboratively with instructional staff throughout the design and development process of curricular material. Facilitate short monthly check-ins with coaches and curriculum leaders to provide resources, support problem solving, share quick best practices, and foster a collaborative culture across the team of instructional leaders.
- Coordinate development and updating of our fine arts and enrichment assessment strategy, including portfolio submissions
- Analyze progress and program performance across our network quarterly to inform revisions and professional development
- Develop program vision and fundamentals of instruction for 5-12 theatre, art, and PE courses. Build corresponding department resources such as coaching tools, curriculum meeting agendas, etc. Train and support Arts and Enrichment coaches and curriculum leads on these resources.
- Enforce, uphold, and exhibit the school's values, student management policies, and culture.
- Support schools by providing support with volunteer opportunities (8 per year) and commit to a routine duty to help schools (ex. arrival/dismissal duty).
- Sits on Valor’s Top 1% team and performs additional duties and responsibilities to support school teams.
- Attend weekly staff Circles.
- Serve in an “Executive Director” role for two high school productions (fall and spring) and one middle school production. Mentor school-based directors through oversight, observation and feedback, ongoing support, etc.
- If needed, serve as “Director” for a production if a school-based team member is unable to serve in the “Director” role for a production.
- Support the casting of the production through auditions, selecting students for speaking roles, singing, and dancing parts. Build casts and crews that are reflective of Valor’s larger student body.
- Lead budget planning and fundraising efforts to ensure the production is adequately funded for materials, costumes, and sets.
- Ensure the production adheres to deadlines for rehearsals and performances.
- Monitor cast and crew attendance and GPA to ensure guidelines and support is provided as needed for students.
- Support management of supplies to build resources for future productions in alignment to Valor’s current available storage and storage policy.
- Support ongoing communication and promotions of the productions to drive excitement and ticket sales.
- Organize showcases and art exhibitions to highlight student work and celebrate achievements.
- Manage community outreach to support booking of spaces, marketing, involving families.
State Portfolio Lead
- Serve as Valor’s portfolio lead.
- Manage Fine Arts and Enrichment team to meet all obligations of the portfolio system.
- Liaison directly with the Tennessee Department of Education. Disseminate information to appropriate stakeholders.
- Support teachers and curriculum leads in designing course curricula to align with portfolio requirements.
- Lead ongoing training throughout the year to lead to exceptional results for teachers.
Critical Experience and Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree required, with an advanced degree preferred
- 5+ years of work experience in a role that required a deep curriculum focus and science knowledge (e.g., teacher, curriculum designer, instructional leader, program designer)
- 2+ yrs experience coaching and/or developing adults and managing change
- Track record of dramatically improving outcomes for students
- Experience developing arts curricular materials aligned with state and advanced placement or pre-AP courses.
- Demonstrated track record of managing multiple projects and deadlines, and of consistently delivering high-quality work even in the face of obstacles
- Experience with, or enthusiasm for, the integration of a social-emotional learning and academics; committed to bringing a strong diversity, equity, and inclusion lens to the work
Key Skills & Knowledge:
- Understanding of standards for Fine Arts and Enrichment’s courses in Tennessee
- Familiarity with best practices in the field for instruction and student data analysis
- Knowledge of specific methodologies and frameworks common to high-performing public charter schools.
- Understanding of Tennessee’s portfolio system for teacher evaluation.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills
- Proficiency in GSuite
- Data analysis and interpretation skills
- Financial knowledge and skill in maintaining a balanced budget.
