Job title: Legal and Business Affairs Manager

Main Purpose of Role:

Universal’s international Legal & Business Affairs department in London provides a wide range of legal support across the UMG business. A junior lawyer is required to assist the department on a variety of matters including:

  • Drafting, negotiating, reviewing and advising on a wide variety of commercial contracts
  • Assisting on M&A deals globally (managing both local counsel and colleagues)
  • Assisting with competition law issues arising across the business, e.g. in relation to M&A activity, and advising on regulatory and other compliance matters
  • Drafting and negotiating artist recording agreements and licences
  • Advising on matters relating to UMG’s involvement in TV talent shows globally, and managing the relationships with the various partners involved
  • Negotiating and drafting joint venture agreements
  • Providing support on a range of queries and issues from UMG’s legal teams globally
  • Providing legal support and guidance to the company’s commercial teams on a range of issues and new projects
  • Assisting with international legal policy, anti-piracy and other industry related matters
  • Drafting NDAs and statements of work
  • Managing contracts and relationships with Universal’s third party licensees

Person Specification:


  • Qualified lawyer, at a junior level, with a range of post qualification experience
  • International/global perspective
  • Commercial approach
  • Excellent drafting skills
  • Approachable manner with good communication skills and able to build strong relationships with colleagues across the business
  • Good time management skills and ability to work under pressure
  • Organised, with a high attention to detail
