Job title: UK Copyright Manager 
Responsible to: Head of UK Administration 
Department:  Copyright, UMPG 
Location of work: Fulham Broadway (St.Pancras Summer 2018)

Main purpose of role

  • The implementation of deal term terms to the Universal database from newly executed or amended publishing Agreements in coordination with the Head of UK Admin. Ensure that all relevant contractual information is present and correct.  Liaise with the Business Affairs and A&R departments where necessary
  • Planning for, then implementing newly delivered or amended Works into the Universal database
  • Commission support services where appropriate (e.g. European Administration Department, Global Data Services Department)
  • Delegation of Copyright tasks to the Administration Assistant
  • Registration of new domestic agreements with PRS For Music
  • Attending to copyright queries raised by clients, affiliates, 3rd Parties and collection societies, which will involve analysing music publishing agreements and historical source documents
  • Liaise with writers and contract partners on Copyright matters
  • Maintain the UK company Copyright policies and procedural documentation
  • Attend meetings with senior management to review performance of the department and discuss policies and strategic development
  • Liaise and attend meetings with other departments necessary to perform duties and aid business and organisational development
  • Attendance of external meetings, as and when required, as a representative of Universal Music Publ. Ltd.

Person specification


  • Previous Copyright experience at a music publishing company
  • A natural forward planner who critically assesses their own performance
  • Advanced knowledge and understanding of all aspects of Copyright within a music publishing company, including but not limited to, samples, translations, adaptations, arrangements, counter claims and disputes
  • Experience of analysing contracts and an advanced understanding of music publishing agreements and the content therein.
  • An understanding of music publishing royalty calculations and experience of implementing royalty rates into a Copyright and Royalty database
  • Experience of registering new agreements and amendments with the PRS for Music and resolving any queries that may be generated by this process
  • Knowledge of PRS For Music, its structure and its systems
  • Highly effective communication skills, via written media, in person and telephone/conferencing
  • Mature, credible, and comfortable in dealing with senior management and company executives
  • Proven ability to promote and implement ideas to improve processes and performance
  • Ability to produce consistently accurate work, especially under pressure
  • Ability to prioritise and manage multiple deadlines of self and that of Administration Assistant depending on Business needs
  • Experience in using AS400 or similar bespoke Copyright & Royalties system
  • Advanced Microsoft Office skills
  • Ability to report on workflow and metrics to drive improvements in Administration


  • Educated at a degree level
  • Experience of managing staff including delegation and development
  • Previous experience working in fast paced, pressured environments
