The UMass Memorial Health Care Department of Psychiatry is the largest provider of psychiatric services in central Massachusetts with over 400 faculty members who work in a variety of settings within UMass Memorial Health Care, the University of Massachusetts Medical School, and the public sector.  We integrate our clinical, research, teaching and community partnership activities to help individuals and families transform their lives through recovery from mental illness and addiction.

Our Psychiatric Treatment and Recovery Center (PTRC) is a 26-bed community-based general inpatient psychiatric unit located in downtown Worcester and a flagship teaching program of the Department.  We seek a BE/BC psychiatrist to serve as Medical Director and oversee all program functions for this locked, acute psychiatric unit.

  • In addition to program oversight, the Medical Director, PTRC will provide direct clinical services to psychiatric patients such as psychotherapy, case consultation with physicians, risk assessments, etc.
  • They may also perform forensic evaluations and serve as an expert witness.
  • The Medical Director will typically follow 10 patients at a time.
  • The successful candidate will have a strong interest in teaching and clinical research.

The Hospital has outstanding training programs which include 27 residents and fellows as well as 16 trainees. Our Psychiatry positions offer the opportunity for involvement in a full range of activities. We are a national leader in public sector psychiatry, child and adolescent psychiatry, neurodevelopmental disorders, biological psychiatry, neuropsychiatry, forensic psychiatry, psychosocial rehabilitation, women’s mental health, and addiction psychiatry.
