Position Summary:

As our Lead Payroll Administrator, you will be a key member of a mission-driven, fast-growing, public company, with ownership of all payroll and commission-related activities. In addition you will be responsible for preparing journal entries, preparing analytical analysis and other general accounting activities related to payroll.  This is a critical role that will involves oversight and performance of multiple complex activities that require a strong work ethic and the ability to work collaboratively with other team members.  The right person for this role will be excited to think outside the box to design and implement efficient processes to help our company grow and scale over time. Additionally, this person will feel aligned with our company mission and core values and eager to incorporate them into the payroll team.

Key Responsibilities Include:

  • Primary responsibility for ensuring semi-monthly multi-state and Canadian payroll are completed accurately and on time.
  • Perform key responsibilities with month-end close, including timely and accurate preparation of journal entries, account reconciliations and analytical analysis of the payroll-related accounts
  • Manage monthly commission, incentive payment and accrual processes
  • Maintain accurate payroll records and required documentation. Interface with external auditors to ensure timely and accurate audits of payroll information.
  • Create internal and external deliverables for SEC reporting, quarterly reviews and year-end audits
  • Tackle ad-hoc projects, working closely with the Accounting and People Operations Teams
  • Communicate effectively with Finance, Human Resources and Accounts Payable to review cross-departmental impacts and reconcile data sharing
  • Responsible for all Audits, multi-State and Federal reporting associated with payroll
  • Interact with Trupanion team members to ensure the payroll team is meeting the organization’s needs in alignment with our company culture.

 

Qualifications

Education, Registration & Certification:

  • BS/BA degree in Accounting or Finance preferred, but not required

 

Experience:

  • Experience with ADP required
  • 4+ years of US and Canadian payroll processing experience required; public company experience a plus
  • Advanced knowledge of Microsoft Excel required
  • Working knowledge of Microsoft Dynamics Great Plains preferred, but not required

 

Skills, Knowledge & Abilities:

  • Knowledge of US Generally Accepted Accounting Principles and good analytical skills
  • Energetic and highly motivated, with the ability to manage multiple tasks and thrive in a fast-paced environment
  • Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail a must
  • Strong written and oral communication skills
  • Strong analytical abilities, including the ability to troubleshoot problems and recognize areas for process improvements
