Bridge Tender/Blue Hat

 

Transdev in the Miami, FL area is seeking a Bridge Tender/Blue Hat to join our team. The Bridge Tender/Blue Hat works in support of the Maintenance of Way (MOW) track laborers and serves as a relief Bridge Tender as needed. This position is governed by a Collective Bargaining Agreement, is a represented BMWE union role, and is part of the Rail Retirement program. Pay for this position is set in accordance with the applicable union agreement.

 

Position Subject to Collective Bargaining Agreement:

  • $39.04 per hour (Union Collective Bargaining Agreement Payscale).

 

Benefits include:

  • Vacation: Vacation eligibility and accrual are based on seniority, as determined by Railroad Retirement Board service and verified through the employee’s BA-6 or C-90 form, in accordance with the Collective Bargaining Agreement.
  • Sick days: 2 days
  • Holidays: 13 days
  • Personal Days: 2 days after 8 years, 3 days after 17 years of service.
  • Other standard benefits: Railroad Retirement benefits, medical, dental and vision, life insurance.

Benefits may vary depending on location policy. The above represents the standard Corporate Policy in accordance with the CBA.

 

Key Responsibilities: 

  • Operates controls and moves levers that activate signals for trains and vessels providing passage.
  • Observe and receive signals from approaching vessels.
  • Communicate with train dispatchers, train crews and vessel operators.
  • Ensure compliance with all railroad rules and regulations for safety, operations and the Federal Railroad Administration (FRA).
  • Installs and repairs railroad track and embankments, to include special track work, road crossings, signage, and rail lubricators.
  • Replace ties, rails, fasteners, special track work components, crushed rock ballast, crossing surfaces, paving, sub grade material, vegetation, signs and structures.
  • Fuels on-track equipment.
  • Other duties as directed by the track supervisors or upper management.

 

Qualifications 

  • High School diploma/GED
  • Must be a minimum of 18 years of age.
  • Must be able to read and comprehend regulations and instructions as well as possess good verbal and written communication skills.
  • Must provide their own transportation.
  • Must be available to work any shift.
  • Ability to pass Railroad rules (GCOR) and RWP training.
  • Prior railroad experience preferred

 

Physical Requirements:

  • Ability to work outdoors in all weather conditions, to lift and carry objects weighing up to 50 lbs.  Constant bending, twisting, stooping, standing and walking.
  • Able to walk, climb and maintain balance on equipment, stairs, ladders uneven terrain, rails and ballast in a safe manner.
