Overview:
Performs transit vehicle maintenance on equipment and determines when and what kind of maintenance is needed in compliance with Transdev standards. Conduct tests and inspections of products, services, or processes to evaluate quality or performance. Installs equipment, engines, hoses, batteries, tires, wheels/brakes, HVAC, wiring, or programs to meet specifications. Services, repairs, adjust, and tests machines, devices, moving parts, and equipment that operate primarily on the basis of mechanical principles. Watches gauges, dials, or other indicators to make sure equipment is working properly. Analyzes information and evaluates results to choose the best solution and solve problems. May also be responsible for electronic signs and fare box repairs.
Duties:
- Adjust and reline air and hydraulic brakes, align wheels, tighten bolts and screws, and reassemble equipment.
- Align front ends (where applicable) and service suspension systems.
- Attach test instruments to equipment and read dials and gauges to diagnose malfunctions.
- Examine and adjust protective guards, loose bolts, and specified safety devices.
- Inspect brake systems, steering mechanisms, wheel bearings, and other important parts to ensure that they are in proper operating condition.
- Inspect, repair, and maintain automotive and mechanical equipment and machinery such as pumps and compressors.
- Inspect, test, and listen to defective equipment to diagnose malfunctions, using test instruments such as handheld computers, motor analyzers, chassis charts, and pressure gauges.
- Operate valve-grinding machines to grind and reset valves (where applicable).
- Perform routine maintenance such as changing oil, checking batteries, and lubricating equipment and machinery.
- Recondition and replace parts, pistons, bearings, gears, and valves.
- Repair and adjust seats, doors, and windows, and install and repair accessories.
- Rewire ignition systems, lights, and instrumental panels. Able to work on multiplex systems.
- Inspect and verify dimensions and clearances of parts to ensure conformance to factory specifications.
- Must be qualified to repair and maintain parts of the engine, such as fuel injection systems.
- Test drive transit vehicles to diagnose malfunctions or to ensure that they are working properly.
- Use hand tools such as screwdrivers, pliers, wrenches, pressure gauges, and precision instruments as well as power tools such as pneumatic wrenches, lathes, welding equipment, and jacks and hoists.
- Practices safe work processes and contributes to the creation and maintenance of a safe working environment for self and others.
- Responds to road call breakdowns and performs on-the-road repairs as needed.
- Other duties as directed and/or assigned.
Qualifications:
- Must be at least 21 years old with a high school diploma, GED or equivalent.
- 3-4 years maintenance experience with all types of heavy- duty transit equipment.
- Ability to obtain Commercial Driving License with passenger and airbrake endorsements (We offer development opportunities for obtaining your license)
- Possess 609 and 608 air conditioning certifications preferred.
- Possess at least three H or T series ASE certifications of which two must include H2, T2, T4 or H4.
- Excellent communication skills with ability to read English, interpret safety documents, schematics and other mechanical diagrams.
- Ability to pass a DOT physical examination, including a background check, pre-employment drug test and random drug screenings.
Physical Requirements:
- Must be able to work shifts or flexible work schedules as needed.
- Regularly required to stand; walk; use hands to manipulate, handle or feel; reach with hands or arms; and talk or hear.
- Frequently required to sit.
- Occasionally required to climb or balance; stoop, kneel crouch or crawl; and smell.
- Occasionally required to lift up to 75 pounds.
- Must be able to work in extreme heat and cold and in a damp environment with moderate noise.
- May be exposed to water, fumes, and chemicals.
