Utility Supervisor Assistant

 

Transdev in Chula Vista, CA is hiring a Utility Supervisor Assistant. The Utility Worker Assistant Supervisor supports the Utility Worker Supervisor in overseeing daily utility operations, including cleaning, fueling, and basic servicing of CNG/BEB buses and related facilities. This role serves as a working lead, providing guidance to Utility Workers, assisting with inspections, documentation, and quality control, and ensuring work is completed safely, accurately, and on schedule. The Assistant Supervisor acts as a point of contact in the Supervisor’s absence and helps maintain consistent operational standards.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Assist the Utility Worker Supervisor with coordinating and prioritizing daily work assignments for Utility Workers.
  • Provide day-to-day work direction and guidance to Utility Workers, including proper use of equipment, materials, and safety procedures.
  • Perform preliminary and follow-up inspections of buses after Utility Workers report work completed, verifying cleanliness, fueling, fluid levels, and service readiness.
  • Document inspection findings and report deficiencies to the Utility Worker Supervisor for corrective action.
  • Verify fueling, fluid usage, and other required logs for completeness and accuracy.
  • Monitor compliance with safety rules, OSHA requirements, SDS guidelines, and company policies; immediately report unsafe conditions.
  • Identify and report mechanical, facility, or equipment issues to the Utility Worker Supervisor or Maintenance.
  • Assist with onboarding and training of new Utility Workers.
  • May serve as acting lead during assigned shifts or in the absence of the Utility Worker Supervisor, within established authority.
  • Perform related duties as assigned.

 

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or equivalent (GED) required.
  • Valid state driver’s license with a minimum of one year of driving experience and a good driving record required.
  • Must be eligible for and able to obtain a Commercial Driver’s License (CDL) with Passenger endorsement within a specified timeframe, if required.

 

 

Experience

  • Minimum of 1–2 years of experience as a Utility Worker or in a similar fleet servicing, janitorial, or transportation support role required.
  • Lead or acting lead experience preferred.

 

Skills and Knowledge Required

  • Strong working knowledge of utility operations, including vehicle cleaning, fueling, and basic servicing.
  • Ability to read, understand, and follow written and verbal instructions, policies, and procedures.
  • Effective oral communication skills and ability to provide clear work direction.
  • Working knowledge of SDS, safety practices, and environmental compliance related to fueling and cleaning operations.
  • Ability to complete inspections and accurately document findings.
  • Attention to detail and commitment to quality standards.
  • Basic computer skills for logging, reporting, and email communication.
  • Ability to work collaboratively with union-represented employees and management.

 

Physical Requirements

  • Ability to stand, walk, bend, and lift for extended periods.
  • Ability to lift, up to 50 pounds with or without reasonable accommodation.
  • Ability to work outdoors and in shop environments with exposure to noise, weather, fuels, and cleaning chemicals.

 

Work Environment

  • Bus yards, fueling stations, maintenance shops, and related facilities.
  • Exposure to cleaning agents, moving vehicles, and varying weather conditions.

 

Travel Requirement

  • Less than 5% for occasional meetings or training.
