Our railroad maintenance division, Transdev Rail, Inc, provides an integrated suite of railroad maintenance, project oversight, and construction services.  This position is in south Florida, where Transdev Rail, Inc. employs a workforce of approximately 80 employees to maintain over 70 miles of track, bridges and structures, facilities and the right of way from Miami to Mangonia Park.

 

Overview of Position:

 

This position will primarily operate heavy rail equipment on and off the tracks and provide flagging.  Position will also perform a variety of  support in the MOW maintenance and construction areas.

 

Key Responsibilities:

  • Must comply with all SFRTA and Transdev rules and policies for safety and operations, and Federal Railroad Administration requirements.
  • Operate specialized heavy equipment on track.
  • Perform routine mechanical maintenance to equipment.
  • Operates equipment on track and drives equipment onto truck trailers.
  • Provide warnings and direct or restrict the movement of trains past a point of track to provide On-Track Safety for Railroad Workers and Contractors on controlled and non-controlled track.
  • Regulate occupancy and/or access by contractors within fouling distance of track at particular work sites in accordance with agency policies and procedures, FRA rules and regulations and Roadway Worker Safety Procedures.
  • Communication skills with radio or cell to agency dispatcher.
  • Control all on-track movements of construction equipment.
  • Document and complete daily reports, of flagging and construction.
  • May be called upon to perform tasks associated with any MOW work assignments.
  • Perform other duties as assigned by the Supervisor of Track or his designee.

 

Education, Licensing, and Certifications:

High school diploma or GED equivalent

Prefer some Equipment Operations Training

Class A CDL required

 

 

 

 

 

Experience:

  • A minimum of 3 years of relevant flagging experience is preferred.
  • Previous heavy equipment operating experience preferably Railroad experience.
  • Knowledge of safe, efficient use of equipment and tools to perform construction and maintenance tasks.
  • Required to have and maintain a satisfactory driving record
  • Able to work independently is required
  • Local travel is required
  • Reliable transportation is required
  • FRA 213 Track Inspection Training preferred
  • Promotes and maintains a safe working environment required

 

Pre-Employment Requirements:

  • Must successfully pass criminal background check, drug test and physical examination.

 

Physical Requirements:

 

  • Able to work outdoors in extreme weather conditions; walk on uneven surfaces sometimes great distances; safety sensitive work environment
  • Frequently climb on/off equipment and climb ladders
  • Use hands to perform activities involving grasping, turning holding and pulling
  • Able to work in conditions with loud noise, work around heavy/ moving machinery/ bend, walk, stand and sit for extended periods of time
  • Available to work a 40-hour work week subject to overtime, on call and alternate shifts that may include weeknights, weekends and holidays.
