Lead Virtual Production Artist

THE THIRD FLOOR, Inc. is the world’s pre-eminent visualization company with offices in Los Angeles and London as well as on location with productions around the world. Since 2004, the studio has helped clients visualize and maximize content by producing computer-animated blueprints, known as “previsualizations”.

The Third Floor London is a fun, creative company founded by artists, for artists. We work on extremely high profile projects, while maintaining a small studio feel. Recent examples of our work include Dr Strange, Rogue One, Beauty and the Beast and Wonder Woman. 

We are looking for a Lead Virtual Production Artist to join our London team. The person will be training with the Virtual Production Supervisor and assisting the to deliver complex technical shoots, technical previs and on-set live tracking and compositing needs on a variety of high profile films.
The ideal candidate will have “can do” attitude and enjoy the challenge of learning new areas in finding solutions for technical problems for feature films.


  • Work with the Virtual Production and Previs Supervisors to ensure a smooth transition from previs to shoot on set
  • Able to generate technical diagrams & Quicktime’s that demonstrate complex technical issues and requirements in a clear and concise manner
  • Communicate technical needs to Heads of Departments on shows ie. Art Dept, Camera, Stunts, SFX and VFX
  • Create technical tools as required by the project ensuring they adhere to company standards
  • Communicate tools and technical solutions to the wider TTF group
  • Work with Previs to ensure that they adhere to the technical requirements of the project
  • Create data to be used for SFX and motion control requirements
  • Assist Virtual Production team in techvis training for the Previs teams
Essential Skills:
  • Exceptional client facing and management skills
  • Technical understanding of cameras – film back, aperture, shutter, FOV etc - and camera rigs and cranes
  • Proven techvis and/or technical planning experience
  • Good knowledge of Python and/or Mel scripting skills
  • 3D Tracking experience (ex Boujou, PF Track, 3D Equaliser)
  • Excellent trouble-shooting skills
  • A good understanding of the entire visual effects process
  • A good understanding of animation and an eye for motion
  • An excellent knowledge of Maya
  • A working knowledge of at least one compositing application (e.g. After Effects or Nuke)
  • Good knowledge of Photoshop
Desirable Skills:

  • Feature Film On-set experience
  • Working with motion control rigs
  • Motion Capture & Virtual Camera experience and awareness of the various tracking methods
  • Experience with Motion Builder preferred
  • Good knowledge of Python and/or Mel scripting skills
  • Understanding or experience with game engine technology
