Account Director



An Account Director looks beyond the day-to-day needs of an account to ensure the long-term stability and growth of the relationship and revenue.  The Account Director must serve as the client’s strategic marketing partner and must provide leadership in the category of interactive marketing.  The Account Director also serves as the internal team leader. Deep experience leading pharmaceutical accounts is required.


Areas of Accountability

The Account Director is accountable for:

  • Revenue generation
  • Profit management
  • Leadership and strategic vision

      Overall thought leadership for clients, team in industry, interactive strategy and marketing


  • Client leadership:

      Be the primary contact for interactive leadership/vision for mid- to senior-level clients

      Develop annual and quarterly account plan and achieve strategic and financial goals

      Budget management and budget security

      Document, negotiate, and secure all contractual agreements and sign-offs

      Lead compelling and engaging team presentations (internal and external)


  • Team leadership:

      Champion of team to client and of client/client’s business to team

      Clear, regular communication regarding client and project goals, prioritization, and measures of success

      Escalation point for AE, AM, PM on client/account issues

      Mentor, train and manage Account staff


  • Business development

      As assigned by Managing Director, respond to RFPs and/or requests for participation in pitches

      Drive the proposal process, including working with PM to secure resources, facilitation of brainstorming meetings, reviewing budgets and schedules, creating a financial plan, creating overall vision/strategy, ensuring timely delivery of quality final proposal


  • Industry and client vertical expertise

      Specific vertical to be determined by GAD or MD

      Provides foundation for portfolio of clients under management

      Includes category trends (past and present), best-in-class work and forward-thinking viewpoint

      Industry trends, major players and specific client market



  • 10 years of experience in the healthcare/pharmaceutical space
  • Capable to lead, present and sell effectively, build rapport among clients and internal constituencies
  • Commands respect among clients and internal constituencies
  • Enthusiasm for interactive, innovation and client industry
  • Actively reading industry publications
  • Bachelor’s degree
  • Strong management characteristics including: team, budget, client relationship, and marketing program management
  • Excellent communication (verbal/written) and presentation skills
