Position at Taylor Communications

Taylor Communications is seeking a Development Programmer to support and develop custom software to improve Taylor Communications internal manufacturing processes.  The position is part of the Manufacturing and Engineering team. The successful candidate will be responsible for providing timely and accurate responses to internal customers. The successful candidate will be responsible for troubleshooting, diagnosing and resolving problems related to systems in manufacturing and supported by engineering. In addition, the candidate will develop, test, install, document and train users in software solutions that support manufacturing.

 Shift Available

  • Normal business hours
  • Some off hours support required
  • Minimal travel required (less than 20 %)


Responsibilities Include:

  • Provide first level of contact with internal customers via phone, chat and email and provide resolutions to customer issues in a customer friendly manner
  • Diagnose, resolve and/or involve appropriate resources to resolve or escalate reported issue in a timely manner
  • Work both independently and as part of a team on a daily basis
  • Handle interruptions from phone calls, emails and chats in a customer friendly manner
  • Obtain management approval for any major changes in the direction of effort, including termination of the activity if warranted
  • Efficiently utilize time and resources to insure effective completion of projects
  • Manage individual time to provide excellent customer service while continuing to learn about company systems and programming
  • Expected to learn through online training, individual training and associate assisted training with the goal to learn internal systems and improve programming skills
  • Provides management with meaningful reports on issues and their resolution along with suggestions for improvements
  • Participates in planning of departmental activates based on knowledge and experience
  • Must be on call outside normal working hours to handle emergency situations
  • Must be willing and able to travel as required in support department’s goals

 Minimum Qualifications:

  • Associates degree in a technical discipline, completion of a related vocational or certification program and/or 2 years related full time professional experience
  • Excellent customer service skills; good analytical, troubleshooting and problem solving skills; strong oral and written communications skills; effective team player
  • Ability to prioritize service requests and monitor individual workload
  • Demonstrates proficiency with one or more of the following C#,, SQL, VB Scripting, ASP, HTML, JavaScript, Visual Studio
  • Demonstrates proficiency with one or more of the following Visual Studio, MS SQL Server Management Studio, Visual Source Safe, MS Office, Windows7, PDFs
  • Detail and results oriented
  • Works well as part of a team and individually
  • Should have the ability to organize and express thoughts clearly
  • Perform related duties as required



Preferred Qualifications:

  • 1-2 years of experience in a support, engineering or software development environment
  • Must be able to work autonomously and be able to solve practical and theoretical problems through the use of available data or information
  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent in Computer Science or Computer Programming
  • Demonstrated proficiency in computer programming language(s)
