Taylor Communications is seeking an IT Database Analyst/Administrator (DBA) - Evaluates and designs existing or proposed systems to access databases and/or large-scale client/server databases.

 

Shift Available

  • Full-Time 40 hrs with possible nights and weekends

 

Responsibilities Include:

  • Install and configure new SQL Servers
  • Migrate SQL Servers from prior versions to new (SQL 2000 and Greater)
  • Migrate Legacy DTS Packages to SSIS
  • Troubleshoot SQL Server service outages as they occur, including after-hours and weekends
  • Assist in needs evaluation and options for new SQL Server environments
  • When performance issues arise, determine the most effective way to increase performance including hardware purchases, server configuration changes, or index/query changes
  • On-call troubleshooting experience
  • Tuning SQL Servers and Queries to improve performance
  • Monitors existing databases for performance. Implements new procedures, etc. to ensure optimal performance.
  • Submits recommendations for solutions that require definition of the physical structure and functional capabilities of databases and require data security and data backup/recovery specifications.
  • Monitors, evaluates, and maintains systems and procedures to protect the data systems and databases from unauthorized users.
  • Identifies potential threats and responds to reported security violations.
  • Researches, recommends, and implements changes to procedures and systems to enhance data systems security.
  • Assists in communicating security procedures to users.

 

Minimum Qualifications:

  • BS degree in MIS or Computer Science, or equivalent years of relevant work experience is required
  • Minimum of two (2) years SQL Server database administration experience including troubleshooting and performance tuning required
  • Minimum one (1) year in a production support role required
  • Good understanding of administering a Microsoft SQL Server, Transact-SQL (ANSI-SQL) and Distribution Transaction Services (DTS) required
  • Under supervision, performs work that is varied and that may be somewhat complex in character, but usually involves limited responsibility.
  • Some independent judgment is required.
  • Must have working knowledge of SQL and be proficient in data manipulation and extraction techniques.
  • Typically reports to: Splst Level, IS/IT Supervisor or Manager.

 

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Knows and applies the fundamental concepts, practices and procedures of particular field of specialization.
  • Strong analytical skills.  Ability to write/modify code within deadlines and in conformance to standards.
  • Effective oral and written communication skills, interfacing with internal peers and first level management group.
  • Strong learning competency
  • Ability to document database design, application design
