Taylor Communications is seeking a Director of Operations with responsibility for our Retail Signage operations located in Portland OR, Columbus OH, and New York, NY.  This role will provide oversight and strategic direction for the safety, quality, service, and production of the division’s operations.  This position is responsible for assuring attainment of profit, growth, market penetration, and employee development objectives according to plan.  The Director of Operations will provide support to the Sales team to achieve customer service objectives, interact with Sales personnel and Customers, and actively engage in positive management leadership to build and maintain a positive and productive work environment for all division personnel. 


Shift Available

  • Monday – Friday, days (available nights and weekends as required)


Responsibilities Include: 

  • Build and implement strategic plans to ensure manufacturing operations are synchronized with and effectively support go to market plans.
  • Directs the facility-based Operations Leaders to build a cohesive and highly responsive network of facilities supporting growth and profitability goals in the retail signage solution set.
  • Selects, develops, trains and motivates a leadership team to ensure attainment of short and long term growth objectives. 
  • Provides strategic direction on quality and service improvement and continuous improvement in all aspects of the business across the platform.
  • Champion for lean manufacturing within Taylor Communications and building benchmark facilities within retail signage.
  • Evaluates demand versus installed capacity and capability and recommends and implements actions to add new or remove excess capacity and augment capability in support of go to market plans.
  • Evaluates overall facility performance as well as the combined performance of all facilities in the retail signage solution set and takes appropriate actions if goals are not being achieved.
  • Develops and improves measurement and control systems to ensure highly effective performance in the areas of productivity, quality and cost containment.
  • Develops business plans and budgets to contribute to the overall growth and profitability of the Company.
  • Ensures facilities have appropriate policies in place to effectively manage inventory, warehousing, planning/scheduling and delivery.
  • Keeps Vice President of Manufacturing apprised of progress toward objectives through monthly progress reports and financial reporting. 
  • Responsible for promoting and maintaining a safe work environment in compliance with OSHA and company standards for all employees.
  • Supports the implementation of automated systems throughout the plant.
  • Remains informed of competitive activities and trends in the market and develops appropriate actions to respond to challenges and proactively take advantage of opportunities.
  • Participates in business reviews, leads corrective action regarding quality or service issues, and supports sales building opportunities with customers.

 

Minimum Qualifications: 

  • BS Business, Industrial Engineering, Graphic Arts, Printing Management or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Experience leading and driving lean manufacturing across multiple facilities.
  • 7-10 years broad management experience overseeing multi-site manufacturing operations.
  • Previous experience overseeing operations that include purchasing, automated inventory control, budgeting and productivity measurement.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills appropriate for audience ranging from production employees to senior management.
  • Working knowledge of all functional areas (manufacturing, finance, sales/marketing, etc.)
  • Strategic planning and demonstrated skills at writing implementable business plans.
  • Adaptability; ability to balance needs of production and sales/customers.
  • Strong interpersonal skills.
  • Intermediate PC Skills - Computer / measurement systems knowledge; proficient in spreadsheet applications, web browser / internet navigation.
  • Strong planning / organizational skills.
  • Strong leadership skills with the ability to effectively manage and motivate employees.
  • Results oriented.
  • Ability to find innovative approaches to solving problems and accomplishing goals.
  • Ability to travel up to 50%.

 

Preferred Qualifications: 

  • Master’s Degree in Business Administration.
  • 10-15 years broad management experience in a wide format digital print production.
  • Experience in wide format printing.
