Position at Prime Pork

Prime Pork is seeking a qualified individual to serve as an alley buyer/procurement lead. 

Main Responsibilities:

  • Sort butcher hogs according to weight and quality.
  • Monitor the load for excited, slow, down or non-ambulatory animals
  • Move livestock from unloading area and to the scale.
  • Follow Prime Pork’s animal wellbeing and handling polices.
  • Maintain head count and weight of hogs received at plant.
  • Maintain animal identification by assigning tattoo numbers and/or tagging all hogs including any dead or non-ambulatory hogs.
  • Assist Procurement Manager in daily assignments.
  • Assist in operation of the scale.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • High school diploma or GED
  • Good working knowledge of livestock quality and livestock handling. 2+ years’ experience.
  • Ability to stand or walk for entire shift
  • Ability to withstand higher levels of noise, dust and odors associated with livestock on a daily basis
  • Experience with tattooing hogs and using of animal driving aids.
  • Ability to have the physical strength to assist in gently rolling 200- 300 lb. non-ambulatory animal
  • Ability to bend or move in order to motivate hogs to move with voice and driving aids
  • Ability to work in areas of extreme heat, and cold conditions
  • Ability to lift up to 20 pounds on a daily basis and be able to stand for up to 12 hours
  • Ability to differentiate between little and heavy hogs (weight estimation)
  • Ability to read and write as required
  • Ability to pass pre-employment and random drug tests
  • Good counting/ math skills
  • Good verbal communication
  • Experience working with a diverse group of people. Bilingual Spanish and English a plus
  • Ability to maintain high expectations pfor self and others, demonstrating a dedication to achievement of results.
  • Demonstrated ability to function successfully in a fast paced, changing work environment
  • Detail oriented, organized, reliable and resourceful.
  • Ability to work effectively both independently and within a team environment.
  • Ability to sit, stand, squat, walk, grasp, lift, kneel, crouch, talk, and hear
  • Basic computer skills required
Preferred Qualifications:
  • TQA Certification
  • Experience operating a captive bolt gun
  • Experience operating a skid loader
