Internal Communications Manager

The Internal Communications team develops and implements internal communications strategies to advance engagement and business literacy of all employees.  The Internal Communications Manager will create, manage, and continuously improve internal communications channels that enable delivery of information to all leaders, all employees or targeted groups of employees efficiently, accurately and appropriately.  This person will connect communications activities and touchpoints to minimize disruption to business operations and maximize employee attention and action.  In addition, this role will be responsible for developing strategies to support broad-based programs that require leader/employee engagement, as well as programs that will increase employee understanding and ability to act in support of the company’s mission, vision and values.

Responsibilities Include:

  • Provides confident, well-informed leadership on strategies to reach particular groups of employees in a way that achieves the desired results: awareness, compliance, engagement, participation, etc.
  • Improves information flow internally.
  • Builds reasonable business cases and negotiates resources to support improving existing communications channels that include:  web sites, blogs and other electronic media; periodic videos; plasma screen connections; employee newsletters, on-site communications “centers,” daily huddles, town halls, podcasts, and more.
  • Maintains a broad enough view of internal communications activities to make recommendations and win consensus among senior leaders about how to connect multiple activities in a way that maximizes impact.
  • Establishes and maintains consistent editorial tone and visual quality of materials that flow through the internal communications channels. 

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in related field and 7+ years directly related experience.
  • Has a strong understanding of internal communications offerings and applications.
  • Serves as credible advisor and resource to peers and senior executives on issues related to internal communications.
  • Develops and maintains reliable expertise about the communications preferences of various employee audiences so that Internal Communications colleagues can make confident recommendations for the best ways to reach those audiences. 
  • Draws on best practices to achieve new levels of success.
  • Recommends ways to improve communications flow, execution and deliverables.  Manages the change management communication process.
  • Negotiates appropriate timelines and workflow process with customers and communications centers of excellence to ensure timely completions.
  • Recognizes workflow or work product shortcomings and works alone or with teammates to improve them.
