Alabama at Birmingham, Washington State University, Suffolk University and Hofstra University. This position reports directly to the Director of Student Experience at INTO Suffolk University.

Job overview
INTO Suffolk University is a joint venture between Suffolk University and INTO University Partnerships. This position
is employed by INTO Suffolk University. The Student Services Specialist, in close cooperation with the Director of
Student Experience, develops and maintains a positive student experience for all students in the INTO Suffolk
program. This position provides leadership and oversight of support services for INTO Suffolk students to assist with
their adjustment to life in the U.S. and enhance their overall university experience.

This position provides varying levels of responsibility and assistance in non-academic aspects of the INTO Suffolk
student experience, including but not limited to housing and dining, transportation, activities/programming, arrival,
orientation and transition programs and services, student success initiatives, health and wellness, partnerships with
academic programs, and communication with parents, families, sponsors, and educational agents.

Key Responsibilities 

  • Responsible for the INTO Suffolk Orientation experience. Prepare informational materials and orientation sessions to ensure a successful transition to INTO Suffolk;
  • Coordinate with Student Services staff, internal, and external stakeholders, including Academic Support, Admissions, Finance, Academic Program Managers and others, to ensure the success of Orientation processes and implementation;
  • Responsible for leadership and supervision of orientation student workers and Oversee recruitment, training, operations, and communication;
  • Responsible for engagement programs and activities that align with the INTO Suffolk and Suffolk mission and vision, in collaboration with internal and external partners, to deliver experiences that support student success and satisfaction;
  • Responsible for liability and risk management issues, including student welfare on trips;
  • Maximize and leverage campus partnerships to enhance INTO Suffolk engagement programming;
  • Develop partnerships with academic departments, including INTO Suffolk Academic Team, to integrate programming within academic programs;
  • Responsible for developing and implementing a successful INTO Suffolk pre-arrival experience. Ensure student preparedness for their arrival to the US and the Orientation process through utilizing web, print and electronic materials;
  • Liaise with INTO North America and relevant departments to create a comprehensive Welcome Guide for incoming students;
  • Responsible for all aspects of the INTO Suffolk Arrivals experience; liaise effectively with internal and external stakeholders to ensure excellent arrival experiences for all INTO Suffolk students and excellent transition experiences for all INTO Suffolk students living on campus;
  • Act as point of contact for INTO Suffolk regarding campus housing and arrival inquiries from students, parents and agents;
  • Ensure clear mutual understanding of Suffolk University and INTO Suffolk policies and ensure effective communication of policies and processes to students and other stakeholders;
  • Coordinate with University Residence Life, and Housing in regards to student accommodations, arrival and departure logistics, policies, and other relevant details;
  • Oversee airport transfer shuttle service for students, including arrival times, communication with students, and drop-off points;
  • Provide leadership to ensure excellent customer service experiences for INTO Suffolk students and others;
  • Build and maintain close working relationships with internal and external departments;
  • Responsible for maintaining current information on policies and processes and ensuring effective communication of policies and processes to students;
  • Responsible for a positive INTO Suffolk student experience with internal policies and processes;
  • Advocate for or initiate improvements to the student experience; streamline processes and develop efficiencies;
  • Assess programs and services under student services by collecting data and gathering feedback;
  • Use data to establish effectiveness and impact of programs and inform improvements;
  • Provide coverage of the INTO Suffolk Welcome Desk;
  • Serve on department, division, and/or all-university committees as assigned;
  • Provide coverage for the INTO Suffolk Emergency Phone;
  • Assist other INTO Suffolk Student Services staff and the Director of Student Experience as requested;
  • Other duties as assigned

Qualifications: 
  • Bachelor’s degree and one or more years’ professional work experience in a leadership role or equivalent combination of education and experience;
  • Student services experience in higher education
  • Ability to plan strategically, develop, and implement programs and activities for students;
  • Experience with building and managing relationships with peers, senior managers, key stakeholders, and students from a range of cultural backgrounds;
  • Excellent interpersonal, oral, and written communication, and organizational skills;
  • Ability to help others from diverse cultures who have various levels of English proficiency;
  • Demonstrated competent I.T. Skills;
  • Demonstrable commitment to promoting and enhancing diversity;
  • Applicant must pass a background check and have the ability to be legally employed in the US;

Desirable

  • Advanced degree in international education, student affairs, higher education or related field, or equivalent experience;
  • Supervisory experience
  • Previous work with international students;
  • Understanding of issues relevant to international students;
  • Overseas living experience and/or proficiency in language other than English
