Instructional Technologist

Staff Exempt Boston, Massachusetts


Primary Responsibilities 

  • Provide phone, online (ServiceNow) and in person support including, but not limited to, navigation, basic functionality, data import, course and user management, configuration issues, and troubleshooting for LMS and integrated applications.
  • Develop and maintain knowledge management materials, including training guides, presentations, documentation, job aids, and video tutorials.
  • Management and support of teaching and learning applications including Blackboard, Panopto, Collaborate, Ally and others.
  • Design and develop innovative training for faculty and staff on campus administrative systems, Microsoft Office Suite (Word, PowerPoint, Excel, etc.), instructional technology tools (LMS, video, mobile learning apps, etc.), and other campus software applications for teaching and learning.
  • Conduct needs analysis for new workshops, training, and professional development.
  • Promoting productivity and efficiency, investigate and promote innovative users who use technology to improve student learning
  • Plan and execute highly proactive and effective outreach activities to raise awareness of campus technology systems.
  • Stay current on best practices and emerging trends in teaching and learning technology, including investigating and testing/piloting new teaching and learning technologies and evaluating current and potential technologies to determine their ability to meet Section 508, WACG 2.0 standards.
  • Other job-related duties, as assigned.


    • Bachelor’s degree is required. Master’s degree is preferred with emphasis on information technology, programming, instructional technology, instructional design, or equivalent.
    • Three years of relevant work experience. Master's degree may be substituted for up to two years of work experience.
    • Extensive experience administering learning management systems (Blackboard & Canvas preferred).
    • Excellent proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite 2016, Adobe Creative Suite, Camtasia, Panopto, Adobe Spark, HTML, CSS, XML, Java and JavaScript.

    • Excellent communication skills, both written and oral, and an enthusiasm and empathy for those who struggle to acquire technological learning/teaching competencies are required.

    • Ability to conduct workshops in various formats to diverse audiences.
    • Experience designing and facilitating training programs.
    • Experience with educational technology software platforms is required, but can be varied. Examples include: LMS-Blackboard or equivalent (required), third-party publisher LMS plug ins, video and multimedia production platforms (e.g., Panopto, Camtasia, etc.-required), student response systems (required),  course capture systems (required),  web conferencing software (e.g., Collaborate, WebEx, etc.), simulation environments, adaptive learning environments, commercial software platform training, office productivity software (e.g., MS Office), Adobe suite, academic software applications and computer operating systems (PC and Mac) is required.
    • Prior experience in instructional design as well as familiarity with online and distance learning platforms, hybrid and flipped classes, and web technologies is desired.
    • Experience in Universal Design, design of accessible course materials, and accessible software evaluation, feedback and assessment (Section 508, WACG 2.0 compliance and standards) is required.
    • Experience with content authoring such as creating videos or Flash based tutorials is a plus.
