Senior Instructional Designer

The Senior Instructional Designer is responsible for leading the development of engaging and effective learning experiences across Suffolk University.  This position reports directly to the Learning and Development manager.  As a key member of the Human Resources team, they will play a crucial role in designing and implementing learning solutions that meet the needs of the University.

 Responsibilities:

  • Work collaboratively with Workday Analysts, Human Resource Business Partners, campus partners, and subject matter experts to identify performance, skills, knowledge, information, and attitude gaps of the workforce regarding Workday and design learning to close the gap.
  • Work with key stakeholders across the organization to lead and track to completion a variety of learning and development projects. Responsibilities include assessing training needs, designing and developing training content to evaluate the effectiveness of training.
  • Plan and lead meetings, discussions, and outreach to stake holders and subject matter experts to move training initiatives to completion.
  • Create highly interactive, engaging, and effective new training content utilizing modern learning technologies (i.e., eLearning, distance learning and video.)
  • Serve as the subject matter expert in converting existing classroom-based curriculum to eLearning and other modalities.
  • Develop new content to address current and future organizational needs.
  • Monitor, collect, compile, and report on the implementation and impact of training programs.
  • Facilitate in-person and or hybrid remote training sessions.
  • Create and distribute Learning and Development communications regarding new/updated programs and important changes to systems impacting the workforce.
  • Set and maintain quality standards for all training initiatives to ensure consistency and effectiveness of training materials. Including but not limited to: style, formatting, design and, organization.
  • Develop and refine online course production processes and workflows.
  • Actively engage in remaining current on industry best practices, emerging technologies, and trends in an effort to continuously improve the employee learning experience.
  • Analyze multiple sources of data and information to plan and coordinate informed and data-driven improvements to course content and the student experience.
  • Manage, create, and maintain the Workday training curriculum and training schedule to ensure all employees receive timely training that supports their job functions and responsibilities.
  • Perform other projects as assigned.

 

Qualifications:

  • Comprehensive knowledge of instructional theories, principals, and practices related to technology-based learning (eLearning, distance learning, and recorded video.)
  • Experience creating engaging and effective training for a variety of learners to drive high level organization goals.
  • Proficiency with eLearning software and technology including Articulate, Adobe Captivate, TechSmith Camtasia, Microsoft PowerPoint, and the Adobe Creative Suite.
  • Strong writing, editing, and visual design skills.
  • Strong organizational skills; ability to accomplish multiple tasks through effective prioritization in a fast-paced environment and work with a high level of independence.
  • Ability to work with all levels of an organization, offering a high level of customer service and communication to properly focus training development.
  • Experience engaging subject matter experts to create effective training.
  • Experience with an organization level LMS (Learning management system); including building and assigning roles and maintaining profiles.
  • Excellent verbal &written communication, interpersonal skills, and the ability to present complex concepts clearly and effectively.
  • Ability to effectively facilitate classroom and remote training delivery when necessary.

 

Minimum Requirements:

  • A Bachelor’s Degree in Education, Instructional Design, or related field from an accredited college / university and 2+ years’ experience in a leadership role, either training management or training project team lead, or at least 6 years of experience working in an instructional design role.
  • Experience in a lead role in all phases of one or more organization-wide learning and development projects.
  • Content development skills with experience using a variety of technology tools including Articulate, Adobe Captivate, TechSmith Camtasia, Microsoft Office, and the Adobe Creative Suite.

 

Preferable Requirements: 

  • Knowledge and experience with Web Content Accessibility Standards and Guidelines and disability law, including the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA), Section 508; and WCAG 2.1/2.0 AA.
  • Experience with the configuring and administering Learning Management Systems.
  • Experience developing and delivering training across functional areas within the Workday platform.
