Senior Proposal Writer

STG, Inc. is seeking a solution-oriented, high-energy, business and proposal-savvy individual to serve as a hands-on Senior Proposal Writer on both major and strategic, high-visibility proposals to department of defense, civil, and intelligence agencies of the Federal Government.

As part of an integrated team comprised of Business Development Directors, Capture Managers, and proposal support staff:

  • Work with the Capture Managers to develop and articulate technical, management, and phase-in solutions.
  • Provide detailed guidance to proposal writers/contributors within STG and its subcontractors.
  • Communicate proposal-related requirements and status with senior management, as appropriate.
  • Support Proposal Manager lead coordination and preparation of high quality proposals;
  • Assist Director, Proposal Operation in coaching staff on matters related to producing winning proposals;
  • Build continual Proposal Process Improvement;
  • Work closely with the Proposal Manager and Lead Technical Writer to assign responsibilities to proposal team members;
  • Oversee development of proposal volumes (i.e. management and technical) and execution of color team reviews;
  • Facilitate the identification and incorporation of win themes;;
  • Write proposal content where required;
  • Generate high quality proposal graphics and delegate to others who can contribute to those designs;
  • Support preparation and execution of oral presentations with visual aids;
  • Work closely with functional departments, sub-contractors, pricing, and potential partners to assure an integrated approach to proposals;
  • Attend government debriefs and assist in the internal communication of such debriefs, applying lessons learned to improve future proposal efforts.
  • Write and edit proposals; drive technical and business proposal process throughout the lifecycle to create compelling and compliant documents from pre-RFP to final award; tracks status of proposal generation & maintains schedules.
  • Support all aspects of proposal production (e.g. word processing, graphics, proofreading, reproduction, printing, collation, and binding), including hard and soft copies as required, ensuring timely delivery to customers. Work wirh graphucs, editors, and desk top publishers.

About The Job

The Senior Proposal Writer must be knowledgeable of the federal proposal process and extremely hands-on in the development of solution frameworks as well as proposal text and graphics concepts. Critical attributes include exceptional communication, teamwork, flexibility, organizational capacity, ability to motivate, and a “do-whatever-it-takes” attitude. Successful candidates should expect to work additional time on short notice. That candidate must handle competition-sensitive information appropriately. Travel is required as necessary.

This individual will be responsible for ensuring that the solution is contained in the proposal documents and oral presentations in a creative, compelling, and compliant manner. This individual will be expected to:

  • Write and synthesize proposal/marketing narrative in near-real time as required. Leverage existing archived proposal information.
  • Develop targeted questions and interview technical and programmatic staff to extract the critical information necessary to develop technical and managerial solutions.
  • Participate pro-actively in advancing STG proposal knowledge management processes.
  • Lead and pro-actively participate in the development of oral presentation slide concepts and scripting. The focus is on the solution development and script development, not on the production, documentation, and process elements. Those are necessary, but not sufficient.
  • Perform quality check of all proposal sections and volumes. Responsible for accuracy and quality.

  • Work with the Capture Managers to develop and articulate technical, management, and phase-in solutions.
  • Provide detailed guidance to proposal writers/contributors within STG and its subcontractors.
  • Communicate proposal-related requirements and status with senior management, as appropriate.
  • Define and manage the proposal response schedule in conjunction with the Capture Manager.

Minimum Qualifications

Bachelor’s degree, and 8 or more years of overall progressive experience, centered around proposal writing, in fast-paced, deadline-driven, high-volume proposal environments.  Higher education can be substituted for years of experience.

  • Proven ability to conceptualize and write compelling, marketing-oriented proposal narrative and oral presentation slides from scratch as required.
  • Working knowledge of MS Office business applications required.
  • Must be able to obtain a DoD Interim Secret clearance.
  • Meticulous attention to detail.
  • Working knowledge of SharePoint.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience desktop publishing
  • Master’s degree is a plus
  • Track record of winning funded performance-based, $100M and larger contracts preferred
