The role: Group Senior Manager, Internal Controls
We are looking for a Group Senior Manager, Internal Controls to join our busy and dynamic team based in our Toronto Office.
Why we need you:
You will have ownership of the day to day operation of the Internal Controls program from scoping to execution and final reporting from a consolidated Group level. You’ll liaise on control design, assessment and risk mitigation across multiple locations and with leadership and teams in Financial Reporting, Information Technology, Human Resources, Legal and Tax Compliance areas with the external auditor.
In this role, you can expect to travel extensively across our network of offices (around 30-40%), across the UK and Australia as you are involved in a range of global activities.
You’ll implement timely standards and framework-based solutions for governance, risk and compliance under Canadian and US SOX (Sarbanes-Oxley), design and project manage “on the ground’ efforts. You will develop and implement the annual internal controls assessment plan and have ownership for the implementation of walkthroughs, testing and remediation to include coordination with external auditors by:
- Overseeing the COSO and COBIT based assessments and reporting efforts
- Supporting the annual global planning and materiality process
- Evaluating reliance risks for financial applications, outsourced providers and related parties
- Advising the Business and IT functions regarding segregation of duties requirements and mitigating controls
- Supporting quarterly certification and related board level reporting on ICFR objectives
- Ownership for preparation, update, and or review of end-to-end process documentation (narratives and flow charts). Significant interaction with divisional personnel as required
- Identifying opportunities to optimize controls via automation or other options
- Evaluating and documenting specific risk issues where a “deeper dive” is needed or requested
- Being responsive to questions and assistance requests from control owners and business owners as well as internal and external audit teams.
- Determining the propriety and efficiency of control structure, assessing new system and process impacts on controls, and performing spot reviews of select processes/control issues

You will have a degree in finance or accounting with the ability to work well in highly dynamic faced paced environment meeting tight deadlines. You’ll have strong knowledge of financial accounting processes, policies, systems and complex consolidations.
You’ll have and excellent work ethic, be dedicated, driven, accountable and enthusiastic. You will have a process improvement mindset with strong attention to detail, as well as, excellent communication and analytical skills. You will have experience using Microsoft Office products, such as Excel and PowerPoint.
As the ideal candidate, you will have:
Experience working in a large publicly listed company with global reach. You’ll be comfortable working on multiple entities within a group structure (consolidating those accounts and understanding a highly complex and matrixed organisation). You’ll most likely have exposure to various FX/currencies and you’ll have been absorbing information at a publicly listed company level, looking to improve and change processes where possible to meet the highest level of efficiency possible. You’ll be someone who thrives on making change and thinking deeply about improving processes / taking the initiative to get things done the best way possible. You’ll be someone who is very comfortable travelling up to 60% of your time across the globe.
