TITLE: Engineer, Application in Lab
 
LOCATION: Hybrid in Boulder, Colorado (3 to 4 days a week in the office)

Your work will directly impact the reliability, performance, and security of our products. You will develop and execute test plans, design automated test infrastructures, and analyze results to drive continuous improvement.
 
This role requires a blend of engineering expertise, problem-solving skills, and collaboration with cross-functional teams, including Engineering, System Architecture, and Technical Sales.
 
Key Responsibilities
 
· Test Planning & Execution: Design and implement precise, repeatable, and maintainable test plans and test cases for Spectra storage solutions.
· Automation & Infrastructure: Develop and enhance automated test frameworks to streamline validation processes.
· Root Cause Analysis: Investigate issues, identify root causes, and assist in resolving problems for both internal and customer environments
· Collaboration & Knowledge Transfer: Work closely with Engineering teams to ensure seamless knowledge transfer for new products and features.
· Bug Tracking & Reporting: Provide detailed issue reports and work with development teams to resolve defects.
· System Integration & Testing: Validate Spectra products with third-party software solutions (Independent Software Vendors) and ensure compatibility in various environments.
· Customer-Focused Testing: Support proof-of-concept testing in customer environments to facilitate sales and product adoption.
· Industry Best Practices: Assist in creating best practice guides for implementing Spectra products across diverse workflows, including backup, archive, media & entertainment, science, and research applications.
 
Required Qualifications & Experience
· Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Computer Science, or related field (or 5+ years of relevant experience).
· Hands-on experience in one or more of the following areas:
o Enterprise networking: TCP/IP, routing, performance tuning, packet analysis.
o Virtualization & Server Environments: VMware ESXi, bare metal servers.
o Operating Systems: Windows, Linux, FreeBSD system administration.
o Storage Systems: NAS, S3, Tape (SMB/NFS protocols).
o File Systems: Strong knowledge of ZFS; experience with SAN, NAS, GPFS, erasure-coded systems is a plus.
o System Logging & Troubleshooting: Ability to analyze system logs, write parsing scripts, and monitor system behavior.
· Strong analytical, diagnostic, and troubleshooting skills.
· Passion for improving product quality through innovative testing methodologies.
· Excellent communication skills with the ability to translate complex technical issues for various stakeholders.
· Ability to thrive in an Agile environment with shifting priorities and fast-paced development cycles.
· Proactive and independent work ethic, with a strong attention to detail and multitasking ability.

COMPENSATION:
Base salary range: $80,000 to $140,000 annually. While this salary range is a good faith and reasonable estimate, a candidate’s actual salary will be competitive based on a variety of factors including the candidate’s knowledge, skills, experience and location.
