Qualified candidates will have the opportunity to work in the DoD premier Forensic Center based in Fort Gillem, GA.  Qualified candidates must have the ability to deploy OCONUS once every eighteen months, for up to six months at a time.
 
Responsibilities include but are not limited to: 
  • Examine evidence in consultation with firearms and latent print analysts (as needed) to ensure the proposed collection approach will not negatively impact collection of other forensic data from the evidence. 
  • Ensure proper chain of custody is maintained.  
  • Collect potential DNA samples from evidence using approved procedures designed to minimize the possibility of sample contamination.  All samples shall be properly packaged, marked, and stored in preparation for extraction. 
  • Use photographic equipment to capture still images of each evidence item and relevant key portions of the evidence item, or other exhibits, to support further analysis, conclusions, and documentation.  
  • Generate STR DNA profiles from evidence and reference samples. 
  • Analyze and interpret data using probabilistic genotyping software. 
  • Annotate the case file documentation and generate reports, detailing the processing techniques and the examination results. 
  • Perform administrative and/or technical reviews of reports and worksheets. 
  • Perform instrument maintenance
 
Required Qualifications: 
  • A bachelor’s degree in biology, chemistry, or forensic related area with coursework in genetics, biochemistry, molecular biology, statistics and/or population genetics.   
  • A minimum of 2 years of experience working in a forensic laboratory performing DNA analysis on criminal and/or intelligence materials. Experience must include the following: 
  • Sampling and testing of bodily fluids such as blood, and other items requiring DNA or related analysis. 
  • Ability to extract DNA using automated platforms. 
  • Generation of STR DNA profiles. 
  • Experience with mixture interpretations using probabilistic genotyping software. 
  • Experience with submission of DNA profiles to databases. 
  • Experience in technical and administrative case file reviews.  
  • Must be able to successfully pass a skills assessment upon hire. 
  • Able to obtain a DoD Secret security clearance. (Please note: US citizenship is required to obtain a US Secret security clearance). 
  • Must be able to obtain a US passport.  
  • Must be able to complete and pass a medical assessment per customer requirements. 
 
 Desired Qualifications: 
  • Professional certification such as American Board of Criminalistics (ABC) is desired
