Job Overview
The Manager, Technical Accounting and Tax will provide technical accounting support to the business and document key accounting positions. He/She/They serve(s) as the technical accounting subject matter expert with respect to the company’s accounting policies, business partnerships and developments, and emerging accounting issues from the FASB and/or SEC. The Manager, Technical Accounting and Tax also manages the company’s tax work. This position will report directly to the Chief Financial Officer.
The Manager, Technical Accounting and Tax is an energetic team player who takes initiative and is a strategic thinker with the dual capacity to see the big picture and attend to the details. Exceptional interpersonal skills with comfortability in communicating at all levels of the organization is essential. He/She/They is/are comfortable multitasking, adjust(s) quickly to shifting priorities, and manage(s) time efficiently in a fast-paced environment.
Essential Functions
Technical Accounting & Tax
  • Oversee company-wide technical accounting consultation via research on and analysis of complex accounting issues, applying relevant technical guidance and interpretation
  • Document and communicate recommendations of accounting treatments to auditors, business leaders, and other internal stakeholders
  • Focus on the accounting treatment around revenue recognition, contract management and financial implications, business combination, equity, commissions and bonuses, capitalization, and strategic partnerships
  • Work proactively with external auditors to drive timely closure of technical accounting matters to ensure proper accounting and disclosures along with documentation of accounting memos
  • Assist in the financial policy transition and accounting of any newly acquired businesses
  • Assist with oversight of the monthly close process and related improvement initiatives as needed
  • Oversee income tax process including coordination with third party tax preparers for filing returns and recording the tax provision within the financial statements
  • Ensure compliance with state tax filing requirements
 
Relationship Management
  • Build and manage strong business partnerships with key business development, legal and finance teams in development of partnership contracts to ensure positive financial terms and that revenue is recognized in accordance with corporate policies and GAAP
  • Provide guidance to business leaders surrounding operational growth opportunities and the relevant accounting impacts
  • Support the company in new partnership implementation processes and global developments, including considerations around taxes, intercompany relationships, and revenue recognition
Policies & Process Management
  • Lead and document the implementation of improvements to accounting processes and policies
  • Monitor, communicate, and implement accounting standards and emerging guidance, ensuring awareness of their impact on the organization while overseeing policy adherence
  • Collaborate with CFO and finance leadership to drive initiatives
  • Provide training on new or existing accounting standards to team members
Security
  • Comply with Shorelight Written Information Security Policy, and all other Shorelight Information Security Policies and Procedures
  • Take responsibility for any Shorelight assets assigned to you
  • Promptly report any security events, incidents, or weaknesses to Shorelight Security
 
Minimum Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree in accounting
  • CPA certification
  • 5+ years related work experience applying GAAP accounting and SEC requirements
  • 4+ years auditing experience within a large, multi-national public accounting firm (e.g. Big 4)
  • Experience in both private and publicly held international companies
  • Eligibility to work in and travel freely to and from the United States without sponsorship
