Variable shift

The Food Service Worker I (FSW-I) does all the functions that are not cooking related, i.e. washing dishes, cold prep, salad production, serving, cashier, tray passing, loading carts, general cleaning and receiving


  • May be required to go outside of these job duties at any given time to help others in the department
  • Prepares and cooks to order foods requiring short preparation time
  • Reads food order or receives verbal instructions on food required by patron, and prepares and cooks food according to instructions
  • Typically, performs fast food cooking duties in preparing food items to be served to customers
  • Provides the highest quality of service to customers at all times
  • Follows basic recipes and/or product directions for preparing, seasoning, cooking, tasting, and serving soups, vegetables, desserts and other food for consumption in eating establishments
  • Prepares foods by operating a variety of kitchen equipment to measure, wash, peel, cut and shred fruits and vegetables
  • Tastes products, reads menus, estimates food requirements, checks production and keeps records in order to accurately plan production requirements and requisition supplies and equipment
  • Receive inventory, move and lift foodstuffs and supplies and prepare meals for customers requiring special diets
  • May clean and sanitize work stations and equipment and must follow all state and federal regulatory rules and procedures
  • Loads all food onto carts for service
  • Interacts positively with patients/customers when delivering and serving trays
  • Assists patients/customers with opening containers and cutting foods
  • Advises patients on choices given for any selected diet
  • Communicates with staff regarding patient needs as appropriate
  • Performs other duties as assigned


  • High School graduate or equivalent preferred
  • Two years of food preparation experience preferred
  • Must be able to read, write and speak English
