Variable shift

The Paramedic shall be familiar with the implementation aspect of the modified team nursing process. The paramedic shall demonstrate the ability to function in the following areas: team member roles, communication skills, adaptable to changing work schedules and patient needs, competency in designated roles as outlined by specific unit standards, and policies

Begin:

  • Assists in patient assessment by collecting patient data: assisting in admission; monitoring vital signs as ordered; maintaining accurate I & O; monitoring one touch; drawing lab; obtaining EKGs; inserting foley catheters; set up sterile field; wound cleaning; applying casts and splints and documenting information to appropriate flowsheets
  • Work as a team member to stock supplies, keep the environment clean, and help turn over rooms
  • Assists in implementation of patient's plan of care, ensuring a safe patient environment
  • Administering equipment, supplies and assisting with procedures appropriate to the ages of the patients under the direction of charge nurse
  • Assists/transports patients and appropriate monitoring of patients to and from other departments
  • Ability to operate and maintain monitoring equipment and interpret cardiac rhythms
  • Maintains patient safety and comfort
  • Effectively interacts with patients, families, visitors, and staff members by orienting patient and
  • family to room; maintaining confidentiality; using professional telephone etiquette; and effectively interacts with other departments
  • Successful completion of unit specific competency testing
  • Performs other duties as assigned
Become:
  • Licensed as a paramedic by the State of Missouri
  • Must successfully complete orientation requirements of Southeast Missouri Hospital
  • He/she will be able to perform in the role of team member
  • The paramedic may be trained to assume additional responsibilities as needed, within the scope of their ability
  • A high school degree or equivalent is a minimum requirement
  • BLS, ACLS, and PALS certified
  • Basic and advanced arrythmia classes provided by Southeast Missouri Hospital
  • Must be able to read, write and speak English
