General Purpose of Job

This position is responsible for conducting monthly inspections on corporate facilities and grounds; hands-on repairs of construction or maintenance projects; and assist with preparation for the set-up and cleanup for various cooperative functions, meetings or training.

Education and Experience



  • High school diploma or equivalent GED.
  • Three years progressive experience working in facility maintenance or related skilled building trade experience performing general maintenance and repair.



  • Two years of vocational/technical training in construction, carpentry, plumbing and concrete/masonry or certification in an educational trade program.


Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

  • Knowledge of procedures and practices required for general building maintenance and construction; basic knowledge and understanding of reading blue prints, finish carpentry, cabinet layout and design, drywall repair and installation, painting, electrical wiring, plumbing, HVAC, and cleaning procedures; knowledge of preventative maintenance and repair of sprinkler systems and landscaping.
  • Proficiency in the proper use of specialized tools and equipment necessary to perform general building and grounds maintenance or repair.
  • Demonstrated skill in personal computer operation and basic knowledge of MS Office products; ability to enter and extract data and acquire skills in the use of applicable corporate software programs as they relate to the position.
  • Excellent customer service orientation and interpersonal skills, including written, verbal and listening, for effective interaction with employees, managers, subcontractors, vendors and the public.
  • Ability to work independently and in a team environment to accomplish established goals and meet deadlines; ability to handle stress and pressure in a frequently changing environment; ability to multi-task calmly and effectively in all situations.
  • English is the primary business language. Second language in Spanish is desirable.

Other Requirements

  • Valid Florida driver’s license for regular driving privileges of cooperative vehicles; must have and maintain an acceptable driving record as determined by the Cooperative.
  • Successful completion of SECO Energy’s employment entrance examination and drug screen.


Essential Duties and Responsibilities

This description is intended to indicate the kinds of tasks and levels of work difficulty required of the position given this title and shall not be construed as declaring what the specific duties and responsibilities of any particular position shall be.   • Conduct monthly building and grounds inspections and complete check lists to ensure a safe, healthy work environment; document inspections and provide reports to Supervisor; initiate appropriate service/maintenance request for needed repairs as directed.
  • Assist with building and grounds repairs and maintenance tasks, i.e. minor drywall repairs and painting, door/hardware replacement, office furniture reconfiguration, plumbing fixtures/repair, sprinkler heads replacements/adjustments. Complete tasks as needed with as little disturbance as possible to employees performing duties in the work areas.
  • Keep Supervisor informed regarding all situations affecting facility service operations, employees or vendors.
  • Respond to assigned maintenance requests in an efficient and timely manner.
  • Troubleshoot equipment malfunctions utilizing testing tools as directed.
  • Ensure all tools, equipment, materials and chemicals are stored in the proper and secure location.
  • Ensures the proper disposal of light bulbs, fluorescent tubes and chemicals.
  • Assists in overseeing and coordinating outside vendor’s activities as directed.
  • Assist with inventory control of materials, tools and equipment assigned to Facility Services.
  • Assist with preparation, set-up and cleanup of the District and Annual Meetings, and other various corporate meetings, training, luncheons and events.

  • The normal work week consists of five (5) consecutive eight (8) hour days, or four (4) consecutive ten (10) hour days, exclusive of meal time, Monday through Friday between the hours of 6:00 AM and 6:00 PM.
  • The Cooperative will determine if an eight (8) hour or ten (10) hour schedule will be used and shall establish the normal schedule of starting and quitting time.
  • Shift schedules may be changed by giving a 36-hour notice of the changed schedule.
  • Flexibility to work overtime for assignment completion and to report to work on short notice during emergency situations; ability to respond to call-outs, as needed, and maintain the Cooperative standard for Call-Out response after working hours.
  • Shop environment, field work and general office environment; moderate exposure to adverse weather conditions and travel to all areas of the Cooperative’s service territory.
  • Irregular hours in evenings and on weekends are possible during peak business times and during storm season.
  • Ability to work irregular hours and flexibility to change scheduling and report to work on short notice during emergency situations.  
  • Ability to operate a variety of office equipment, including a personal computer, printers, copy machines, telephone, and fax machine.


While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to talk or hear.  The employee frequently is required to walk and sit.  The employee is occasionally required to stand; use hands to finger, handle, or feel; reach with hands and arms; climb or balance; stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl.  The employee must regularly lift and/or move up to 25 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds.  Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, and the ability to adjust focus.


This position is in a shop environment and field work.  The employee is regularly exposed to moving mechanical parts and outside weather conditions including wet and/or humid conditions. The employee may be required to work from ladders or confined spaces and occasionally exposed to high, precarious places; fumes or airborne particles; risk of electrical hazard; toxic or caustic chemicals.  The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate to loud.
