SECO Energy is a not-for-profit electric distribution cooperative serving nearly 200,000 families and businesses across seven counties in Central Florida, making SECO Energy the third largest electric co-op in Florida and the sixth largest in the nation.

General Purpose of Job:This position is responsible for planning, directing and coordinating the installation, maintenance and support of the Cooperative’s data centers, networking, VOIP systems, microwave systems, cellular communications systems and RF networks. Duties include configuring, troubleshooting, repairing, upgrading and optimizing data center, networking and communication systems and services.

Supervisory: This position has responsibility for the direction, coordination and evaluation of employees in their respective customer service unit. This person is expected to perform supervisory responsibilities in accordance with the organization’s policies and applicable laws. Responsibilities include interviewing, hiring and training; planning, assigning and directing work; appraising performance; rewarding and disciplining; addressing complaints and resolving problems.

Education and Experience:


  • Bachelor’s degree in Information Technology or related field, and a minimum of five (5) years of supervisory experience.
  • Five years of progressively responsible experience in Data Center, VOIP and networking installation, configuration, troubleshooting and management.
  • One or more Certifications in Cisco CCNP/CCIE Routing and Switching, CCNP/CCIE Data Center or CCNP/CCIE Security.  If no certifications, as a condition of employment, applicant must be able to certify with one of the above certifications within 6 months of employment.


  • MCSE, CISSP and SANS certificates
  • Experience with Microwave Technologies, RF Communications, Cellular Communications and Satellite Communications.
  • Experience or similar work with an electric utility or related industry
  • English is the primary business language.  Second language in Spanish is desirable.


Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

  • Strong project management skills.
  • Ability to configure complex networking on Cisco routers, switches and firewalls.
  • Knowledge and understanding of telecommunications equipment and technology.
  • Knowledge of telecommunications project/construction techniques and procedures.
  • Knowledge of applicable data privacy practices and laws.
  • Knowledge or ability to acquire expertise to support Microwave radio systems; cellular technology; Cisco network equipment; fiber optics and TCP/IP networks.
  • Knowledge of data center design and management including uninterruptable power distribution, disaster recovery techniques, service level agreements, data center synchronization,

redundant network paths and high availability systems.

  • Proficiency in the operation of personal computers, windows networks, MS Office products and industry specific software programs.
  • Effective leadership skills with ability to make and implement sound business decisions commensurate with responsibilities; demonstrated organizational, prioritization and project management skills; analytical and process management skills; demonstrated change management aptitude and ability.
  • Effective communications skills including written, verbal, and listening for interaction with employees, management, subcontractors and others; ability to prepare reports, business correspondence, procedures and training manuals; prepare and conduct presentations to employees, management and others.
  • Ability to maintain highly confidential information; ability to multi-task and effectively manage stress and pressure through changing priorities calmly in all situations.

Other Requirements:

  • Valid Florida driver’s license for regular driving privileges of cooperative vehicles; must have and maintain an acceptable driving record as determined by the Cooperative.
  • Successful completion of SECO Energy’s employment entrance examination and drug screen.

  • Develop a work plan for data center, networking and telecommunication system equipment; direct and coordinate personnel to complete general maintenance or repairs; ensure events or projects are on track; maintain records of work requests and track costs associated with projects or repairs.
  • Maintain and monitor all maintenance logs for data center, networking and telecommunication systems; plan and implement any improvement, modification or replacement of components.
  • Oversee data center and network design, operations and maintenance.
  • Oversee the maintenance and support for:
    • Digital microwave system;
    • Two-way radios, base stations, repeaters, alarm system controls;
    • Substation SCADA radios and support Substation-Relay personnel on SCADA RTUs;
    • Equipment related to mobile communication needs.
  • Prepare project status reports and keep management and stakeholders informed of project status and related issues.
  • Oversee the evaluation, recommendation, implementation and scheduling of the installation of telecommunication systems and equipment.
  • Assist in preparing the annual budget for the data center, networking and telecommunication systems.
  • Keep current with new technology and information that may have an effect the cooperative’s networking and telecommunications systems.
  • Maintain an active role in SECO’s “Emergency Preparedness Plan” to include review of the department’s roles and responsibilities and assist in preparing all documentation following an actual emergency as needed.
  • Other duties as assigned.

  • General office environment with field exposure. Normal work hours will be eight (8) hours Monday through Friday, between the hours of 7:00 am and 6:00 pm. Occasional business travel may be required.
  • Irregular hours in evenings and on weekends are possible during peak business times and during storm season.
  • Ability to work irregular hours and flexibility to change scheduling and report to work on short notice during emergency situations.  
  • Ability to operate a variety of office equipment, including a personal computer, printers, copy machines, telephone, and fax machine.


While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to sit, talk, and hear.  The employee frequently is required to walk.  The employee is occasionally required to stand; use hands to finger, handle, or feel; reach with hands and arms; climb or balance; stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl.  The employee must regularly lift and/or move up to 25 pounds.  Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, and the ability to adjust focus.

This position has general office environment. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate.
