Company information
SBM’s main activities are the design, supply, installation, operation and life extension of Floating Production, Storage and Offloading (FPSO) vessels. These are either owned and operated by SBM Offshore and leased to its clients or supplied on a turnkey sale bases. Other products include: semi-submersibles, TLPs, FPSO LNGs, turret mooring systems, brownfield, offshore (off)loading terminals and most recently solutions for renewable energy.

With its Head Office in Amsterdam in the Netherlands, SMB Offshore employees total 4,810 and are spread over seven locations, nine operational shore bases, the offshore fleet of vessels and joint venture construction yards.

From our office in Schiedam, which is staffed with ca. 300 employees, we provide engineering and procurement services, associated with the hull and topsides of FPSO’s.

Department information
The E&I department is responsible for the design of electrical power generation and distribution systems, Integrated Control & Safety Systems, Fire & Gas Systems, Communication Systems and all associated field devices. The team increased a lot in the last year and now comprises more than thirty engineers and designers (including contractors). In the future when project demand is increasing more growth is foreseen. The department is part of the Project Office of Schiedam.

Role description
As Department Manager Electrical & Instrumentation within SBM, you are responsible for maintaining and developing the team skill sets within the department. You are responsible for allocating resources to ensure all Electrical & Instrumentation Engineering project tasks are completed within budget, schedule, quality and safety requirements. You take ownership of the overall quality and performance of work performed by the department. In your role, you must manage uncertainty and provide guidance to the team such that designs are properly executed and risk is managed to prevent negative impact to the overall project.

Furthermore, you will:

  • Ensure efficiency of the work by continuous improvement of tools and engineering processes;
  • Ensure that interfaces with other disciplines and stakeholders are consistent and aligned;
  • Manage talent development and resource development and provide growth opportunities throughout the department by training, coaching and mentoring;
  • Promote the development of the Electrical, Instrumentation and Telecom knowledge and expertise within SBM and keep abreast of the latest developments in technology.
Role requirements
Our preferred candidate for the role of Department Manager Electrical & Instrumentation has at least 10 years’ experience in E&I design in the (offshore) Oil & Gas industry. You have a relevant degree and bring strong leadership skills in managing a team working both locally in the office and remotely from site. You are best described as communicative, stress resistant, organization sensitive and decisive. You are willing to travel, when necessary.
