What We Want You to Do:

The software engineering manager plays a crucial role in providing technical guidance to their team in addition to writing code.  As a hand-on engineering manager, you not only have the technical chops to roll up your sleeves and write code, you also possess technical ability to architect complex systems and manage teams of engineers. You are competent enough to optimize your own code and ensure that your team can optimize theirs. You manage project schedule, goals, product strategy and team development. In particular, you are required to think through end-to-end scenarios for a given product and ensure that nothing is left to fall through the cracks. Software teams work on multiple areas of a complex technology stack - including user interfaces, data analytics platforms, high-speed data processing, big-data and machine learning etc.  In short, you are required to hire, engage, and manage a team of software engineers to achieve well defined product and engineering goals -- including task planning, schedules, code reviews and deployment.

What We Want to See:

  • BS/MS in Computer Science or EE
  • 10 years of relevant software work experience - with the last 2-3 years as engineering manager
  • Experience and expertise in designing and implementing complex distributed systems
  • Subject matter expertise in one or more of the following: SQL databases, noSQL databases, web middleware, responsive web design, data processing pipeline for analytics
  • Excellent development skills in one or more of Go, Python, Java, C/C++
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills - with an emphasis on ability to succinctly convey complex topics to the executive team


  • Experience with developing one or more micro-services – preferably in Go, Python or node.js – with interaction from the frontend UI
  • Proficiency in one or more scripting, prototyping languages such as PHP, Python, Perl
  • Strong DB skills in a contemporary SQL DB such as PostgreSQL, MySQL (MariaDB) etc.
  • Working knowledge of memcached, NoSQL DBs etc.
  • Attention to detail, and a track record of on-time technical delivery of complex products
  • Strong development skills in a Linux/Unix environment
  • Open source kung-fu – ability to find and adapt suitable open source technologies to tackle a given problem in a thorough and complete manner
