Senior Account Planner (Research & Insight)

Purpose: Through creative research and engagement, bring consumer  culture and behavior to the fore of the creative and strategic development processes as an equal partner in creating culture shifting work.

Attitude: A chameleon and shapeshifter, the living embodiment of the consumer/target audience within the agency. Ambassador from the consumer cultural landscape to the agency.


  • Is responsible for defining and representing the target audience(s) for creative and integrated disciplines during development and execution.
  • Crafts creative briefs and provides clear, inspiring and persuasive briefings.
  • Actively participates in new business strategy development including taking a lead role in pitches.
  • Works directly with creatives and integrated disciplines to develop executions that are on strategy and resonate with consumers.
  • Plans and executes qualitative research in collaboration with the research team; presents research/strategy findings to the strategy team, the agency, the client and in new business pitches.
  • Collaborates with research, strategy and analytics teams providing input on information needs, research design and instruments, analysis and implications on research initiatives.
  • Proactively engages as a strategic partner and advisor alongside the Director of Account Planning with top agency and client management teams.
  • Ensures the integrity, quality and effectiveness of the planning function is consistent with client needs and the agency’s goals.
  • Regularly evaluates planning processes and resources, demographic data, consumer profiles, etc. to identify and recommend solutions that improve quality.
  • Identifies developmental opportunities for Account Planners and develops Account Planning training program.
  • Forecasts, monitors and interprets cultural and social trends relevant to the client’s business.
  • Position is client facing and travels frequently.



  • At least five (5) years of related work experience in an advertising agency working in a related area.
  • At least three (3) years in account planning.
  • Relevant experience managing a team.
  • Exceptional written and verbal communications and graphic design skills.
  • Must have some level of comfort operating audio visual equipment.
  • Complete understanding of both creative and research practices.
  • Proficiency with common computer programs (e.g. Microsoft Office, Adobe Creative Suite).
  • Bachelor’s degree in marketing, communications, sociology, journalism or a relevant field preferred.
