POSITION OVERVIEW

 

The “Director of Marketing and Innovation” for Rodan + Fields is a new role reporting into the VP of Marketing, and this position will be responsible for exploring, developing, and commercializing new products in new categories and/or addressing brand new segments with existing products - to attract a new generation of Consultants and Consumers.

 

This Marketing and Innovation leader is responsible for leveraging a broad menu of consumer, competitive and marketplace (trends) data and intelligence as the foundation for exploring opportunities in new categories, which fit the R+F brand, and offer significant financial potential. The Marketing team must balance the development and introduction of any new category with existing skincare priorities by making it easy to sell for R+F’s Consultants. Marketing and Sales will leverage new category launches to bring in new Consultants and consumers to drive growth for all categories
 

SCOPE OF RESPONSIBILITIES

 

  • Launching New Categories – R+F will continue to do a substantial amount of work researching, developing, and commercializing a compelling line of products that will extend the Company into exciting new categories. The new Director of Marketing and Innovation will lead the conceptual development and commercialization efforts to ready these innovations for launch, including framing a strategy and Go-To-Market plans, influencing and gaining alignment across all R+F functions.

 

  • Brand StewardshipThis position requires a strong brand builder to work closely with the VP of Marketing and the CMO to reposition the R+F brand to attract younger and more diverse populations, specifically through the development and commercialization of new categories and market opportunities. This Director will collaborate closely with the VP of Creative, VP of Digital and Dir. Of Skincare Marketing to ensure the brand’s ethos, messaging, positioning, value proposition, creative and style guide parameters are executed seamlessly throughout critical touchpoints in the Innovation and Commercialization processes while laddering up to the over-arching brand.

 

  • Marketing Activation When launching innovations this role must collaborate closely with functional Centers of Excellence – Sales, R&D, Digital, Integrated Communications, Tech, Creative – for cohesive launch plans.  This role partners closely with Sales to integrate new launch activation into existing programs, incentives, rewards, to equip consultants with impactful initiatives. The integration and partnership between Sales and Marketing is seamless to ensure the commercial plan is easily adopted and integrated into the R+F Selling System.

 

  • Financial Delivery – While this is not a line role, the Director is responsible for driving profitable growth for R+F specifically by ensuring new product and new category introductions deliver against financial targets. He/she will be accountable for year-one margin health of all new introductions, in collaboration with key counterparts in Sales, Finance, and Supply Chain.

 

  • Research & Insights – This leader must be knowledgeable to help and oversee research efforts to uncover actionable and important consumer insights that can be leveraged across Product Development, Innovation and Commercialization efforts.

 

  • Functional Leadership & Development – Build and shape a small but highly-effective, world-class team.  Continue to nurture a collaborative and customer-oriented R+F Marketing community, cross-functionally, and across the network of independent Consultants. Review, enhance, and simplify - where necessary - all Innovation and Commercialization processes, measurements, information systems, etc., that enable R+F to operate efficiently and effectively.

  • Success metrics (ROI, NPV, High Testing Scores, etc.) on new product launches
  • R+F consultant satisfaction (specifically linked to new product introductions & promotions)
  • Brand Health metrics (Awareness, Consideration, Preference, Equity and NPS)

There is a team to support this function. This leader will also partner with external agency partners, consultants, and contractors who bring additional Innovation and Commercialization capabilities and capacity to this team.

LOCATION DYNAMICS

 

Rodan + Fields in headquartered in SFO. VP of Marketing would love for this person to live in the Bay Area, so they can be in the office with their team and their Innovation peers. If that isn’t possible, the next preferred scenario would be living somewhere in California, ideally near a major airport (LAX, SNA, SAN), where travel to SFO would be quick. If CA isn’t possible, the next preferred scenario would be living somewhere on the west coast (or mountain region), ideally near a major airport (SEA, PDX, LAS, SLC, PHX, DEN). Last, R+F would consider someone living in the central time zone, ideally near a major airport (MSP, ORD, DFW). In any remote scenario, this new Director should expect travel to SFO, for key meetings and time with his/her team.

 

 

Qualifications:

          10+ years for Director in brand management and/or related marketing experience;

          Bachelor’s degree, MBA preferred

          Ability to speak Spanish a plus

          Demonstrated ability to build, coach and manage a team

          Track record in brand building/product marketing and developing and implementing marketing strategies

          Demonstrated ability to develop winning innovation concepts from early stage all the way to go-to-market

          Solid analytical and critical thinking skills with proven expertise in problem solving

          Ability to collect, analyze and derive business insights from data

          A strong understanding of the product life cycle and promotional process

          A creative thinker who is always looking for new ideas and better ways to get things done
