Summary

The Director, Acquisitions & Market Development will lead the effort to identify, evaluate, and negotiate project or portfolio acquisitions.  This role will be responsible for defining the acquisition strategy within various markets in close coordination with the Development, Origination, and Project Financing teams. Further, this role will define and lead market level analysis to guide Recurrent Energys growth.

 

Principal Responsibilities/Key Results Areas

  • Deeply analyze various markets then propose a strategy to source and acquire projects from third-party developers that are accretive to our greenfield origination and development plan.
  • Actively network in the industry and screen projects to select and originate acquisition opportunities.
  • Lead a detailed evaluation of acquisition opportunities in collaboration with the development, origination, and project finance teams.
  • Work in conjunction with other functional teams to prepare project acquisition recommendations / memorandums for the Investment Committee for the purpose of review and approvals of selected acquisitions.
  • Lead the due-diligence, structuring, negotiation and closing of project acquisitions, in collaboration with business development and project finance teams.
  • Make recommendations to Executive Team regarding potential improvements to company performance including entrance to new markets.
  • Support the post-acquisition development, financing, and sale of the acquired projects.
  • Build and maintain relationships with industry participants, including project developers, EPC companies, and service providers, to continually monitor the market and identify project acquisition opportunities before they become widely known or marketed.
  • Evaluate and recommend new business development opportunities and market growth strategies based on pro-active analysis of market trends and competitors activities.
  • Effectively communicate Recurrent business strategy and project acquisition expectations to internal and external team members on an ongoing basis.
  • Liaise and collaborate with other functional teams in the organization, including business development, origination, project finance, legal, FP&A, to support the execution of the project acquisition strategy.
  • Complete other duties and projects as assigned.
  • Resourceful and comfortable working in an unstructured, entrepreneurial environment; this is a transaction-based environment where requirements and deadlines are dictated by deal flow.
  • Excellent problem solving and strategic thinking skills with the ability to add value through creative input and forward-thinking.
  • Ability to succinctly summarize complex issues and opportunities.
  • Ability to prioritize tasks and juggle competing deadlines effectively, remaining calm under pressure.
  • Ability to travel up to 60% of time in accordance with the company health and travel policies.

Requirements

Knowledge & Skills

  • Wide and active network of industry relationships in the energy sector.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of the power market fundamentals and trends, including renewable energy and energy storage.
  • Good understanding of technical, design, constructional and operational aspect of solar PV and battery storage.
  • Computer skills and knowledge of applicable programs

Highly proficient in MS Excel, MS Word, and MS PowerPoint.

  • Leadership skills and organizational experience working with cross-functional teams.
  • Analytical and creative thinker, problem-solver, team player, self-motivated, with an ability to travel extensively.

Experience & Education

  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent experience.
  • 10+ years of Acquisition experience, preferably within renewable energy sector.
  • Experience in project management and monitoring a large portfolio of projects.
