Reporting to the Foreman, Lead Carpenters are responsible for managing Second Carpenter and teams of carpenters for the fabrication, installation, and handling of custom projects. Lead Carpenters will work closely with the Foreman and Project Managers to make sure they meet the established quality standards and timelines of all projects. They must have knowledge of fabrication specific to special events, staging, theater, and retail displays. 

Duties include, but are not limited to:

  • Managing builds and delegating tasks amongst Second Carpenter and a team of carpenters
  • Coordinating with other Department Leads to maximize efficient workflow of projects
  • Operating in the fabrication department under the direction of the Foreman and Director of Fabrication
  • Working on projects as outlined by Project Managers and the Foreman and adhering to the department's production schedule
  • Working from drawings to verify dimensions and build with attention to detail and quality
  • Maintaining best practices and sound fabrication techniques
  • Working with a Second Carpenter and team to consistently achieve the same standard of quality
  • Managing workload and physical space to the highest efficiency
  • Effectively communicating, both orally and in writing, and remaining professional at all times
  • Ensuring proper safety practices are followed, personal protective equipment is worn at all times, and that a safe and efficient workspace is maintained
  • Oversee all applicable department rules and regulations

The ideal candidate will have:

  • 3+ years’ experience in finish carpentry - additional 1+ years’ experience in scenic (or related) carpentry preferred
  • Extensive knowledge of stationary and hand-held power tools including table saw, routers and typical rotary blade/bit tools
  • Possession of basic hand tools and reliable transportation to job sites
  • Willingness to work overtime, nights, and weekends when necessary to deliver the project on time
  • Willingness to travel on projects for out of town installs
  • Ability to use ladders and carry at least 80 pounds
  • Knowledge of building materials pertinent to industry standards focused on sheet goods made of wood, laminate and plastics
