Procurement Specialist

Pathway Veterinary Alliance is seeking an experienced Procurement Specialist with a desire to work in a dynamic, fun, and rapidly growing organization. Must be a self-driven, problem solving individual with an appreciation for the role Supply Chain Management plays in supporting an organization. The Procurement Specialist will be responsible for procuring goods, materials, equipment, supplies, and/or services.  This position will help maintain supplier relationships and assist with managing their performance.  The successful candidate for this position must have expert organizational skills, be able to quickly adapt to change, excel at working as part of a team, and be able to deliver superior customer service.


  • Purchase services, pharmaceuticals, and equipment and supplies (medical, information technology, industrial, office, etc.).
  • Review purchase requisitions for clarity, detail, accuracy, compliance, and completeness and obtain any missing information prior to processing
  • Qualify vendors, evaluate bids, and help negotiate prices and terms for purchased goods and services
  • Track purchases, monitor vendor quality, and assist with maintaining a database of vendor information 
  • Ensure Supply Chain Management and Pathway policies, procedures, and controls are followed
  • Process and maintain purchase orders to meet demand in a timely, accurate, and efficient manner
  • Assist Finance and other relevant parties with reconciling purchase variances
  • Communicate and coordinate with suppliers to ensure continuous supply of product; manage supply and equipment backorders
  • Maintain effective partnerships with suppliers
  • Actively participate in process improvement and cost savings initiatives
  • Extract and analyze data to support the purchasing decision making process
  • Assist with special projects as directed
  • Travel up to 20%, includes overnight stays and travel across the United States
  • Other duties as assigned


  • 3+ years of Purchasing, Procurement, Buying, and/or Sourcing experience
  • 2 year or 4 year degree in a related field; years of experience may be considered in lieu of degree requirement
  • Proficient in the use of Microsoft Office suite (Outlook, Excel, Word, and PowerPoint)
  • Strong oral and written communication skills
  • Advanced understanding of supply chain management concepts
  • Excellent organizational skills and impeccable attention to detail
  • Able to be flexible and thrive in a fast-paced environment
  • Ability to read, write, and speak English


  • Veterinary industry and/or human healthcare experience
  • Familiarity with Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) software, specifically Workday
  • Strong negotiating, problem solving, analytical, and conflict resolution skills
  • Experience with budgeting and demand planning
  • Critical thinking and creativity


  • Position supports all of Pathway Veterinary Alliance as a member of a centralized purchasing team
  • Position will be located in Austin, Texas
