We are a five doctor, AHAA-accredited, cat-friendly certified, small animal practice in Chicago’s lively Lincoln Park neighborhood. We have provided professional, compassionate, and personalized medical care to the pets in our community for 30 years.

Family Pet Animal Hospital is looking for a Certified Veterinary Technician to join us as part of the Thrive Pet Healthcare community.  

  

As a Certified Veterinary Technician you’ll play an important role in pets lives by providing end-to-end care for our precious patients. Your life-changing work will range from the hands-on care of facilitating outpatient treatments and performing laboratory tests, to support services including admitting and discharging patients. 

  

Role Responsibilities include but are not limited to: 

  

  • Support veterinarians to ensure quality veterinary care, advocate for pets, and educate clients.
  • With each hospital function, assist veterinarians and the medical team to maximize productivity and maintain positive patient flow.
  • Assist with surgeries and procedures which will include monitoring, pre and post op patient care.
  • Draw blood samples for testing and IV catheter placement.
  • Communicate with clients about individualized pet health concerns and offer guidance on Thrive Membership options, medications, and additional treatments.
  • Create and present financial options and estimates.
  • Assist in maintaining relevant, comprehensive medical records with the support of practice systems.
  • Obtain relevant health history and information from clients and maintain medical charts.
  • Use safe restraining techniques, follow standard protocols, and sustain clean, sterile, organized treatment areas, exam rooms, and labs.
  • Animal handling.
  • Taking X rays of animals.
  • Administering and preparing medications, vaccines, and treatments prescribed by our veterinarians.
  • Other tasks as assigned.

  

Experience & Skills Requirements: 

  • Certified Veterinary Technician 
  • One or more years of experience 
  • Motivated and a team player
  • Communicate effectively and professionally with our doctors, customers, and other staff members
  • Compassionate for both animal patients and the pet owners
  • Must be willing to manage food inventory
