The Area Business Manager/Operations Coach will oversee the day-to-day activities/processes within Thrive Pet Healthcare boutique hospitals.  The ABM will work with a defined group of locations, providing leadership, coaching, information, support, and problem solving, for the daily management of the business.  The ABM/Coach will directly manage the Practice Leaders within the assigned region.  The position will work in tandem with the Regional Operations Manager (ROM) in leading the practice and staff in performance and in creating an environment centered around TEAM engagement, where staff feel appreciated, enjoy their coworkers, & feel a sense of accomplishment.  The ABM will consistently demonstrate Thrive Pet Healthcare Core Values. 

**This role requires up to 75% travel. **

Leading with Your Head
Understanding business, solving problems, and making decisions through inclusive contributions of others
  • Manage day to day operations within Thrive Pet Healthcare boutique locations directly and via the hospital leads. 
  • Manage the overall hospital performance in key areas (Transaction Counts, ACT, staff and doctor labor, and other COGS
  • Oversee the adherence to prescribed budgets for all locations – inclusive of all costs associated with the running of the hospitals.  Inclusive of Labor as well as COGs for both clinic pharma/bio as well as disposables and services.  Monitoring of KPIs and planning to achieve practice goals.
  • Ensure hospital leadership team adheres to monthly and quarterly inventory and controlled substance reporting requirements.  Oversee and periodically spot-check on hand inventory. 
  • Ensure hospitals are compliant with Thrive company policies, including but not limited to, OSHA, Controlled Substance, Inventory hard counts and audits, etc.
  • Act as liaison between practices and support departments (facilities, IT, marketing, accounting, and others) to assist/resolve needs of the practice.

  • Ensure consistent execution of the Thrive Pet Healthcare and hospital level culture, core values, and concepts and oversee the training and execution across locations.
  • Support the hospital level leadership in the hiring, staffing, and training of new employees to ensure appropriate team is in place to manage workload. Assist direct report team to ensure the right people are in the right seats resulting in a positive and engaging work environment. 
  • Coach and assist in staff conflict resolution by teaching skills and providing tools to the team members.
  • Coach teams on efficiencies and standard operating processes across the specialty. 
Leading With Your Hands

  • Support and elevate staff members to help them realize their optimal individual and team potential. Communicate all available continuing education offered to staff members.
  • Assure adherence of training and skill testing program in conjunction with Practice Leader. Assist with annual performance evaluations and coach Practice Leaders on GROW model discussions.
  • Coordinate and facilitate training opportunities for clinic staff. Continually update SOPs and documents posted for staff reference.
  • Coordinate and/or provide coverage (CSR or Tech) for clinics in need due to LOA or short-staffed situations.
Key Qualifications:
  • Preferred: Certified Veterinary Practice Manager
  • Preferred: 5+ years’ experience in veterinary field, including management of employees including training and performance correction
  • Ability to develop strong relationships with partnered practices
  • Enjoy client interaction at all levels
  • Excellent communications and facilitation skills to build relationships and foster trust at all organizational levels
  • Experience launching and owning implementation initiatives
  • Understanding of data analytics
  • Ability to thrive in a fast-paced, growth environment
  • The ability to think in complex and ever-changing situations, strong communication skills and the ability to solve problems, execute and transfer knowledge
  • Ability to analyze various sources of data in order to establish priorities and initiate operational programs
  • Sound personal judgment in decision-making
  • Availability to occasionally work uncommon hours and overtime, and to be subject to recall for business emergencies
