Job Summary:                            
The Regional Doctor Mentor (RDM) role is a unique role in our industry. Unlike most mentorship programs, this individual’s sole responsibility is mentorship on a full-time basis. The RDM reports into the VP of Medical Field Operations and directly supports Thrive ecosystems. The RDM is a member of the regional hospital leadership team who partners with the medical director and practice manager to ensure continued skill set growth, medical mentorship as well as development in non-medical areas such as communication, teamwork, imposter syndrome, leadership and more. The RDM will support all new grad doctors in their region, and in some cases doctors that have been out of school for a longer period of time in collaboration with the hospital and regional leaders of those hospitals. Through mentorship, this professional will nurture new veterinarian talent starting in the earliest stages and support continued development and coaching to ensure they are equipped to handle difficult cases, interact with clients, and direct support staff as needed. The RDM will be a key player in driving engagement, skill development, and retention of assigned mentees in their region.                             
                          
Responsibilities:                             
Leading with Your Head                             
Understanding business, solving problems, and making decisions through inclusive contributions of others                             
· Work with Thrive’s central Externship Team to ensure optimized placement of externs and support the local leadership teams to ensure a good extern experience for the externs and hospitals                             
· Work with the hospital team to ensure they know what skills/knowledge the extern wants or is expected to obtain during their visit; and ensure a plan is in place to meet those needs                             
· Accountable for working with the local leadership team to convert the maximum number of externs to hires   
· Perform post-externship evaluations for both the hospital and extern, to ensure the hospital is providing a good experience for the extern and the extern is a good fit for post-school hiring                             
· Will serve as a member of the Doctor Mentorship Program as an instructor and influencer by facilitating the mentor chat and managing weekly presentations. Will also help to identify where areas of deficiency exist in the region then plan and execute the most impactful training method                             
· Accountable for promoting the maximum productivity of the associates supported through direct coaching on flow management, technician support, medical competence, and client interactions resulting in increased mentee engagement, development, retention, transaction volume, and increased ACT                             
· May involve review of mentee medical records, at request              
                  
Leading with Your Heart                      
The interpersonal aspect of Leading with Emotional Intelligence (EQ), effective use of influence, working together constructively and creatively                      
· Attend relevant conferences and symposiums on behalf of Thrive Pet Healthcare                     
· Participate in mentorship meetings with hospital leadership, associates, and Thrive Medical Excellence team on a routine cadence                     
· Partner with Medical Directors and associates to create individualized development plans which will guide specific subsequent training for each assigned mentee                    
· Offer clinical support to staff such as creating treatment plans, educating on bedside manner, and reviewing diagnostics               
· Share strategies for maintaining a healthy work-life balance and mental/emotional wellbeing               
· Arrange an average of 2 events/year, outside the hospital, to connect new graduates, provide a forum for them to collaborate, and provide continuing education              
              
Leading With Your Hands               
The art of bringing people together to leverage their skills, talents, and knowledge to achieve a common purpose with greater results             
· Manage New Graduate Hospital On-boarding, including a brief review of programs such as SharePoint, Thrive University, VetSpire, etc. May include being present during on-boarding             
· Prepare hospital leadership for new graduate arrivals and help set the tone for their new career             
· Manage New Hire Hospital Onboarding for team members who have been practicing 1+ years, including an analysis of expectations to help determine the level of support needed for them to succeed           
· On occasion, collaborate with University Relations and Doctor Recruiting Team to support and facilitate the success of the recruiting process at the hospital          
· Increase retention of doctors in the supported region through creating meaningful relationships, driving doctor confidence, and increasing skill ability          
· Work with the VP of Medical Operation if/when doctors may be at retention risk                    
                  
Key Qualifications:                             
· Doctor of Veterinary Medicine (DVM) or equivalent degree                             
· Substantial clinical experience, typically at least 5-10 years of practice                            
· Experience in a supervisory or leadership role within a veterinary clinic or hospital preferable                             
· Ability to set and communicate clear expectations and goals for the team                           
· Ability to recognize support needs, collaborate with the affected stakeholders to design a plan, and manage execution of the plan in a timely manner                             
· Demonstrated experience in mentoring and training less experienced veterinarians and veterinary staff                          
· Ability to provide constructive feedback and support the professional development of others                             
· Understanding of and experience in client communication to support the clinic's reputation and client satisfaction                             
· Basic knowledge of veterinary clinic/hospital management, including financial aspects such as budgeting, billing, and revenue generation                             
· Demonstrates an understanding of and can effectively coach on highest level of clinical standards of medical practice and how to effectively communicate those to clients
