Thrive Albuquerque is looking for a Surgery Veterinary Tech to join us as part of the Thrive Pet Healthcare community.

 

The Surgery Veterinary Technician is responsible for providing assistance during surgical procedures, ensuring the smooth operation of the surgical suite, and maintaining the highest standards of patient care and safety. This role involves preparing surgical equipment, monitoring anesthesia, and providing post-operative care to animals. The Surgery Veterinary Technician plays a crucial role in supporting veterinarians and ensuring successful surgical outcomes.
 
Responsibilities:
  • Prepare surgical suites with necessary equipment, instruments, and supplies.
  • Sterilize surgical instruments and maintain proper organization in the surgical suite.
  • Assist veterinarians during surgical procedures including wound management, orthopedic and soft tissue surgeries, minimally invasive surgeries (arthroscopic, laparoscopic), as well as radiology, CT, and MRI
  • Monitor anesthesia administration and vital signs throughout surgical procedures.
  • Maintain a sterile environment by following aseptic techniques and ensuring proper sanitation of surgical equipment and surfaces.
  • Prepare animals for surgery by administering pre-operative medications and assisting with pre-operative preparations.
  • Provide post-operative care to animals, including monitoring recovery, administering medications, and managing pain as directed by veterinarians.
  • Maintain accurate records of surgical procedures, medications administered, and patient vital signs.
  • Communicate with pet owners regarding pre-operative instructions, surgical updates, and post-operative care guidelines.
  • Assist with the training and supervision of veterinary assistants and other support staff in the surgical department.
Requirements:
  • Previous experience working in a veterinary clinic or hospital setting, with a focus on surgical procedures required.
  • Registered Veterinary Technician preferred.
  • Proficiency in maintaining sterile environments and adhering to aseptic techniques.
  • Strong understanding of surgical equipment and procedures.
  • Ability to multitask and work efficiently in a fast-paced environment.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to interact compassionately with animals and pet owners.
  • Knowledge of anesthesia monitoring.

Compensation negotiable based on credentials and experience with a hourly pay rate starting at $20 - $30/ hour. The actual rate offered will carefully consider a wide range of factors, including your skills, qualifications, experience, and location
